MEB Uwharrie Run

Where: Uwharrie National Forest, Near Troy, NC

When: Friday May 18th & Saturday May 19, 2012

This is planned as a 2 day ride at the Uwharrie National Forest. I don't have any other plans for cookouts, etc. This weekend is going to be fairly unstructured and open to changes.

Friday plans are to hit the trails around 9~10:00 there shouldn't be too many people there so we should be able to run all of the trails in the forest and some of them twice or more, we'll decide what trails to ride based on the groups capabilities. Plans for lunch can either be on the trail, back at camp or run to the Outpost, whatever people want to do. After dinner we can go out for a night run or just relax back at camp.

Saturday can be the same as Friday except there will be more people on the trails so we may not be able to cover as much ground.

Hopefully most of the group will have CB's on. We'll plan on channel 15 for right now as our com channel.

The trails at Uwharrie aren’t too hard and are well marked so navigating is not difficult and there are go-arounds for the difficult obstacles on most of the trails. The easy trails are suitable for mostly stock vehicles. The moderate trails are for a vehicle with some lift and at least 31” tires, there will be a few areas where difficult sections will be challenging. The Difficult trails are suited for rigs with at least 1 locker and a minimum 33” tire, again, there are harder sections that would require 2 lockers and 35” tires or bigger, but there are easier sections for those not equipped to take the hardest lines.

You will have to get trail passes before the trail ride. Passes are $5.00 per day or you can get a Season Pass for $30. Available at the

Eldorado Outpost Hwy 109, Troy, NC

Camping Information:

Arrowhead Campground has 50 sites for Tent/RV camping. Each site has a table, grill, lamp post and camping pad. The campground has 6 spigots located around the campground for drinking water. A bathhouse with flush toilets, hot showers, and laundry sink is available. There is a family restroom located at the front of the bathhouse if privacy is desired. A 0.75-mile paved bicycle/walking path loops around the campground.

Fee and Site Information: 50 camp sites located on two loops.
Sites 3,27,& 29 are double in size. 33 Sites with electrical hookups: $15.00 per night. Doubles: $ 30.00
17 sites with no hookups: $12.00 per night. Doubles $ 24.00 per night. Site numbers 6 & 22 are Campground Host sites.
A single site can hold 2-3 tents so you can share the site with someone to reduce the cost.

Nick, got my reservations at Arrowhead a few days ago and they still had plenty of sites for May 17-19. Looking forward to it - it's been a couple of years since I was at Uwharrie.

Hoping for some light rain a few days prior - enough to keep th dust down but not enough to create that slick NC mud!! ;D

Nick and I did a little trail riding today out there. Everything was in good shape. Not sure if I can make it or not. There is an ECORS race that weekend. This will be a super event for sure!

Still planning on making it! I won't be able to leave until late Thursday evening and have to leave for home on Saturday afternoon so it will be a short trip - but looking forward to it. The Bronco is already on the trailer! ;D

Weather is looking good for the weekend. Got a bunch of rain over night in the area so the mudholes will have some water in them, but for the most part, the trails should be good and dry for us.

Just a bit of an update on plans since people have been asking.

We'll plan on leaving from the campground around 9:00 and will head to the big double parking lot off of Dutch John Rd. (553) to unload, air down, group up and figure out what trails to ride, plan on leaving from the parking lot around 9:30-10 (the map I posted says meet at 8:30, ignore that). We will come through this parking lot quite a bit throughout the day if anyone gets in late or gets lost, so that may be the best way to catch up with us.

We will be running channel 15 on the CB

From what I have been hearing, the Rangers and other law enforcement have been stepping up patrols, so if you are in a rig that is not street legal it would be best to trailer it to the parking lot to unload, we will figure out trail routes to keep you off the roads.

Nick

I have an extra site Number 28 in the water and electric side. One of our guys could not make it.

Arriving Friday Departing Sunday $ 39.00, the same as I paid for it.

If someone is coming and needs it, great. Otherwise I can cancel it.

Looking Forward to it!

Brought the camera and snapped a few pics from Sat. We started out with a large group on Sat. We had a few Heeps with us and 2 of them broke in short order... A few others (including myself) left a bit early. Here are a few pics of us on Daniel. I didn't get to snap any other pics. Hopefully some others will post some up soon.

Jay, who I think now has the Bronco bug, is working on the "big video" production with a lot of footage from Sunday afternoon with all of our guys taking on Daniel. He does a great job with that stuff.
