Military Bronco History

U13 Military

I just purchased this U13 Bronco this last weekend in Roswell, NM. Although Roswell was home to Walker AFB, this Bronco has an Iowa plate from 1986. I don’t have any history on the vehicle, but it’s great to read everyone’s stories because little by little we fill in the blanks.

F - 170 ci 6 cylinder
L - Michigan Truck
? - B49139
The VIN looks odd and I can’t find the “B” series on any of the decoders. Also, the government tag on the dash was cut off.

That's super cool, and a great find! Love the side mirror, but REALLY love the glove box, especially with the Air Force connection, but I'm a biased AF vet ;D

B is just part of the date sequence for 67', first month 67' began with A. Get a Marti.

Anyone seen a plate like this before? This is on a the door jam of a local '67 Bronco. The dash is gone but the colors in the tub indicate it was a military truck.

Thanks again for the great info and pictures. Does anyone know what the plate on the grill was for? I thought it was just a license plate mount but when I removed my plate I found 6AFL TMP H245 applied to the plate and painted with the original green paint. I'm sure I will have more questions as I get more done. Thank you for the headlamp guard picture, I found someone that has an extra pair that hopefully are for sale.

Check the warrantly plate on the driver kick panel by the emergency brake and look at the DSO, which will be the bottom right set of numbers. It should start with an 83 for government sales. No marti reports are available for 66' but the DSO would be a good clue. Is the Military plate on the dash? Welcome by the way.

I just acquired a US Navy military bronco. Would love to find out more info on it so I can restore to Original

I’m thinking it was used at Naval Base Coronado because I picked the bronco up in California but again that’s just a guess.

The only identifiable markings are the following:

Range security on the tailgate and also on the tailgate a the numbers 94-5188

No doors came with it and no hood or front bumper, which from pictures of old jeeps would have likely contained letterings as well.

Any help with locating pictures or any information on this bronco would be greatly appreciated.

Loved the Military background in your post. I first rode in a Bronco in the US Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana - 1971. It was painted the same high gloss dark green as MP cars of the 1970-1972 era. This Bronco also had the dual rear bench seats that ran the length of the bed, over the wheel wells. And, yes, these seat bottoms also folded up to provide more cargo storage. The vehicle was used by a North Fort Army Chaplain, and I got to ride in it several time when in a hold-over company - assigned to do odd jobs until I received my "orders" for overseas. Always wanted a Bronco after that.... not exactly the same, but now have the 2021 Bronco Sport Badlands. Love it.
