I am working towards an EFI 5.8 swap into my 74 Bronco. I have a non EFI 23gallon rear tank, and I'm looking for info on how to modify my tank for an in tank pump. Also looking for suggestions on what pump to use. I was thinking of a mustang pump out of a 88-93. Am I on the right track? Thanks for any help you can offer. Dave

On both of our Mustang EFI conversions we just used a common Ford external pump with the stock insulating bracket and added a return line to the tank. Very little modification required. The only downfall is that the old Mustang tank does not have anything in the tank to prevent sloshing so it surges a little if you let it get below 1/8th tank and really accelerate hard. The pump was also getting a little noisy on real hot days and long trips so we added a cooler in the return line.

On Frank's, I cut out the mounting ring from the donor tank & had it brazed into the eB rear tank at a radiator shop. (It spent 2 days on a 100W drop light with a vaccum cleaner blowing the fumes out.) Unfortunately, he stored the truck for 8 years and it rusted out, so now he has 2 plastic tanks & 2 external pumps.

BC Broncos has a really good write-up that will give you all the options and information. Just click the "fuel" button on their website.
See you this weekend!

Agreed that an external pump and fuel accumulator is the easy way to go. I think there's even a tech article on the accumulator here on the site somewhere.

Be sure to read all the tech about single vs double pump and acc, both have valid points. I run a single HP pump by the tank on the frame rail and have had no issues including plenty of wheeling with inclines.

I did the accumulator set-up ..... next time it will be a single HP pump where my lp pump is currently located .... above rear axle on frame.
I had gotten a good deal on an old school BC's tank that didn't have the EFI set up also.

Correction .... next time , I will put the old school BC tank in the trail rig and order a new BC's tank for the EFI street rig.
