Hi Guys,

So I was reading online and read about the Mojave Road, it looks like a fun trip.

Has anyone on here has run it?

Do you think 2wd high would work?

Also, what kind of spare parts or other essentials would you suggest on packing?

Thanks!
Chris

PS Here's a link to the wiki page in case you haven't heard of it.

I've been interested in it. I even bought Dennis Casebier's book Mojave Road Guide, but haven't made the trip yet.

My son & I were going to run it, but he broke the case on his AOD right before the trip. Going in only one vehicle seemed unwise, & we never got back to it.

Garberz, thank you for the post to the link! Talk about dirt road porn! I don't have the book yet but have been reading up on this road online recently. I'm thinking of going for it sometime in April but I'll have to see if I can squeeze out the time.

Keep the info coming!

Garberz,
Thanks for the warning. I know the it gets dam cold out in Mojave at night so the GF will need to get a new sleeping bag for sure. I don't think we'd fit well in my mummy bag. I was thinking April since it gets alot warmer in May and down right HOT in June. I don't mind the driving part. We did the Pines to Palms HWY from Banning through Idyllwild and into the Coachella valley in September. It was a blast but all on pavement. When you did the Mojave Road, did you need to put in 4wd or just 2wd? Any random things your suggest on packing?

I'd like to go, but have to pass if it is this April. My daughter & her hubby are expecting their first sometime in April, & we're staying close to home.

Nothing technical on the trail, 99% 2WD hi. A couple of sandy washes where it's nice to know you have 4WD if needed. Bring a camera for sure, firewood for one night. Then just typical trail stuff for repairs. You'll be along ways from any paved road and the entire route is about 140 mi.

SSDDBRONCO, thanks for the link to the double sleeping bags! I might even get one just for me when I camp out of the Bronco! Of course, the GF will be welcome to join ;)

El Kabong, are you going to Fab Fords? Maybe we can meet up and talk about a trip?

Mark, thanks again for the info. I thought it's mostly 2wd high but wasn't sure. Fire wood does sound like a must. Can you post more photos or do you have a link to your photos from when you went? The ones in the CB thread on the Mojave Road look great.

Chris, Back then we didn't have a digital camera. I remember posting those pics on that thread, I scanned them from a photo album. Those were the only ones we took. I wish I had taken more. See you at FFF?

We're planning on it, but everything hangs on when the baby decides to come. If we're there, I'd like to do that. I'll pm you my cell.

El Kabong, I'll call you during the week, this weekend was too busy.

Mark, I understand. Back in the day, before digital I took fewer photos too. Thanks again for the info.

SSDDBRONCO,

I have a family member who lives in Vegas. I was thinking of driving the Mojave Road either after or before visiting but it seems that everyone runs if from East to West so maybe I'd do Vegas 1st. Sorry, I don't have GPS, my meaning of GPS is Great Paper System.

Whatcha thinking?

PS The double sleeping bag is in the mail and hopefully so is my New Mojave Road book.

Haha so you ordered the double sleeping bag. I was just wondering where you were planning on starting the trail and ending it that way i know where exactly you want to go. Do you have a trail name that you wanted to start on or you waitin on your book to figure that out.
