Nop doubt at least a contributing factor.

You have me scared now because I have used the same motor mounts on the last 5 engines (then again those engines probably have a total of like 5000 miles between them.

You coming back for big bear? It was good to see you at the 40th.

Mine look just like that, but not yellow. ;)
Is it pretty easy changing them out? Just unbolt & jack up then replace? I'll need to pick some nice ones up this week.

Sorry about hijacking the thread...:-*

here's an idea for cheap insurance, if yer worried about your motor mounts.

run a piece of chain from the head down to the frame. it aint pretty, but it's effective. my 'stang used to have a problem of rippin motor mounts apart. I got tired of replacing the air cleaner from it hitting the export brace. once it even took my tranny mounts with it!
once it's chained, it'll stay put (relatively speaking). and you can still tell when the mount is FUBAR, cuz when you let off the gas, you can hear the engine come back down.
that's my $.02

I use to run a chain for my Torino until I welded up some solid mounts.

I may do it for the EB later but I wanted to get running right away so I stole the mounts off the parts truck I'm trying to get rid of.

A couple of years ago someone on this site said that they welded some plate on stock ones with the rubber still in place. They left enough open area on the sides so they could burn out the rubber and then welded them all the way around. Sounds like a lot of smoke but it should work. Go to jail around here burning much of anything.

Was that me? I recall mentioning it here.
That's what I did for my 351C motor mounts on my Torino.

That's what I thought while I was mentioning it but somehow I thought it had to be someone on the other coast. See I pay attention. I just can't remember who writes things up.

Hey guys. There's a late model upgrade also if you want. If they're still available that is. Been awhile since I bought a set, but I believe that they were from the '92-'97 F250 with the 5.8 or something like that.
They are virtually identical to the old ones but have some kind of a safety rivet with washer through the rubber and the steel plate.
Haven't seen a set in a couple of years since we put them on a friends Bronco, but I'm sure someone here knows what the applications were for sure.
That's the way I'm going next. The chain or strap ideas are good too, but this might be a little cleaner. And since you're buying new mounts anyway...

You buy them at Napa and they are for 72 Broncos for one. At least that was what I ordered the mounts for. I just thought it was a new safety device since my old ones didn't have them. I think I bought mine about 3 or 4 years ago.

You can see the rivets in Mad's in the picture he provided.

The Fed's probably noticed engine shift problems with later model trucks and forced manufacturers to add the rivet to keep the engine moving. They must have added it to all motor mounts so the early style wouldn't get used on the newer trucks. Just a guess.

bad motor mounts

What about the extreme mounts that Wild horses sell? I have a set on my rig and they are really nice and strong. The only thing I can tell is that you get a bit of vibration with the motor running. Hell Mad just make a copy of the xtreme mount!

I thought of that also. For now I have the some better stock ones in its place to get running and I may just weld up the yellow ones. The Bronco vibrates anyway, if its not the mounts it would be something else.

Mad,

I got a set of motor mounts somewhere in the shed that you can have. They are new and are from napa. I ended up buying one of those extreme mounts from Driven Auto on ebay. I'll try to look for it this weekend.
