In 22 years I have had 2 failures with Motorcraft distributor mounted modules. By chance I ran across a company that makes what I believe to be a worthwhile product for anyone looking for improved factory EFI reliability. Its a genius design to solve heat related failures with the TFI. I am not affiliated in any way but wanted to share what I discovered to help fellow efi bronco owners.

You can also "make your own" by getting the parts from an F150/Bronco with the remote mounted TFI. I did that to an '89 F250 where the module stopped working the distributor. The pickup still worked on the distributor mounted part, so I just spliced wires from it to the remote one.

There are 2 versions of the remote TFI module. The black computer controlled dwell version, typically '94/5 mustangs. The other is the gray one that the dwell is controlled by the module. You cannot mix the versions. The old school Mustang EFI using up to '93 computers will need the gray module. Just looked it up, the gray "push start" remote module has a Standard Ignition part number of LX-226 and can be found stock in 88-90 Taurus, T-bird, Lincoln cont, Cougar, Sable as well as 88-96 Bronco, Econoline and F-series. Get a used factory one with the factory heat sink.

Here is a fun one with that gray module. It will also work on breaker point ignition. Remove the condensor and hook the PIP to the points. Now you can put a nice E-core coil on a breaker point ignition without any ballast resistor. Did this to my boat and opened up the plug gap as it now has a huge spark. Test firing it I could watch the amp meter twitch each time the coil fired. Boat has a happy ignition system now. Pin 1 and 4 ground, Pin 2 coil negative, pin 3 and 6 and coil positive go to switched 12V, which leaves pin 5 to the points (without condenser).
