My rear bumper is finished

I've been working on a rear bumper for way too long. I should have just bought one for the time I've got into it.%) I made the bumper part with 1/4" X 2"x6" and the swing out is 3/16" X 2" X 3" with a Summitt Machine spindle mount and a simple hitch pin with a spring to latch it. To keep it open I have a pin that just drops into a hole in the bumper. Simple but it works. It also has a recessed 3" reciever and a CB antennea mount but it doesn't fit in the gargage with it on. I also POR'd it and top coated with Hammerite. Hope to have time this summer to make a front to match.

That looks great.

Cant beat POR products for the protection. That stuff is like trojan for metal. They should market it that way with a character like the trojan man! lol

Looks great!

Is that a different center panel in the tailgate? And are you running a safari top or is that just a regular hard top sans windows and liftgate?

It's a fiberglass body, no tailgate. I debated on adding a swing away tire carrier but figured I would need quick access to the back.

Last year prior to the Round-Up I needed a top to ride the trails since I don't have a roll cage yet. The top is a stock top that was rusting away in my yard and threw a quick scuff and shoot on it and still don't have a cage. Took the glass out because some of it was broken.

%) Then you won't be able to see forward, either. ;D :D

JK Looks tough! But backup cameras are getting really cheap & easy-to-install - Frank loves the one we put on his truck, and he only has a 33" spare. He uses it for hooking up his trailer, too. Advance had them for ~$40 last time I checked.

Not trying to hijack, and this might be a dumb question... but the "FORD" on the tailgate makes some serious reflection. What did you paint it with? Did the stock ones reflect too?

Nice work on the bumper!!

Very nice!! Kinda like mine... One thing you should have done though is to have made a "pocket" for the end of the swing rack to fit into, and pin it through the pocket. bumpers and frames do twist a fair amount and that pin you are using will pop out from road vibration or a good flex off road. not good when your rack pops open while wheel'n!! just a thought, nice bumper...heres how I did mine.

The letters are reflective and I got them from a board member here... Broncitis

Thanks for the heads up TPS-POPS Hopefully I won't have a mishap and it come unlatched but the pin is fairly long. Maybe I'll throw a bungee on it for a while to see how it does. If I do have a problem I can always modify it.
