I've been looking at cams for like 2 days now and cant decide on one. Motor is 302 about 9-1 comp, stock 95 heads. will have DUI ignition, 470 TA carb, headers, 4.11 gears, NV3550 trans. I would like a strong low to mid range and 5500 RPM max. Any help would be great thanks

I had about the same setup in my old F-100 and I was running a .484" lift 272 duration crane cam. It ran like a beast, but not rough of enough of an idle to hurt you offroad.

Call a cam company and give them your specs. Most RV cams are just right but calling and getting the one closest to your needs is better than just picking one. I've run a 272 cam before while not all are the same I didnt care for it but I didnt have the gears for it either I dont think I would run one with a OD tranny though as its optimum cruise range is usually way over the the RPM's you'll turn in OD and you may see a loss in lowend but you have the gearing to make up for it. I'm running a 266 dur cam now as it fits my rpm range and has great lowend.

It should but I would still give them a call to make sure. Nothing has more effect on a engine then the cam does and if you get the wrong one you wont be happy

I really like the Edelbrock performer. Mine has a slight lope but I think its because of the higher compression. Awesome low end torq! Mine only pulls good to about 4000rpm. The 2v just wont feed it.

:p :p :p I would suggest you call a cam co. of your choice and tell them what you have and what you want. They will give you a couple good choice to pick from. I would suggest Erson cams as I have done a lot of them and have very happy people with them. You can call erson at (775)882-1622 or try www.mrgaskit.com good luck with yor choice.;D ;D ;D Bill  ;D %)

i bought a special grind cam from Total Performance, looking back i wished i would have called around to some of the cam companies, but this cam should work okay should have it going in a few weeks like broncoaz said call the companies and tell them what you have and if their tech support is does not ask a lot of questions, like gearing, transmissions, etc then move on to the next company i seriously doubt there is a large difference in the quality of the major manufactures if you do not understand camshafts read up on them on the internet or get a book on windsor small block performance that bump stick makes all the difference in the world understand it before you buy it and you will be happy with your choice just cause it works in one rig does not make it right for the next

I have had good performance out of the Melling MTF-1 cam in my original 302. I decided to try another cam in my 393W, so I went with a FMS M-6250-M50. This is the '93 Cobra "R" cam, great off idle torque and pulls to 5500.

Call!

Buy for the correct RPM range. Just off idle with max torque. Several companies are offering "off road" cams with this profile.

Follow the break in procedures carefully. Start up, run 2000-3000 RPM while blipping the throttle (for oil splash). I ate a lobe on my first one cause I was chasing 2-3 problems just trying to get the thing to light off. Yeah, nothing like tearing it all down again to flush the block out.
