NEED HELP! steering shaft is pulling thru

Good news. Let me know if that fixes it and try to get some pics while you are in there. I need to get mine sorted out too.

Here is a diagram. Ford pickups from the same era use the same column if you need parts.

Huge thank you to Matt B from Tom's Broncos...he knew just what i was talking bout. there are 2 snap rings(one below/above upper bearing) when i tried to do the smooth collar with a tappered cone/spring...it must have forced the lower snap ring out its grove. should be a easy fix when i get home. i will post results later.

good deal i have the same problem now after i was holding onto the wheel going up a very steep hill. i just have to push the wheel down to shift gears,(auto) could leave it as an anti theft device i guess;D

It was in fact a second snap ring that was missing...if I remember there are 2 about a 1" or so apart from each other. I had the top one...but not the one below it allowing it to pull up a couple inches
