First let me say I apologize if this is a newbie question. I'm looking at TBP major front power disc brake kit for my 1974 with manual brakes. This kit is $1165 and also looking at JBG front disc brake conversion kit for $749. I want to make sure I am comparing apples to apples. TBP says it is vacuum boost power also. Is that the difference. Any help would be great.

I have the Toms kit on my 74 and I'm really happy with it.It looks like the only difference is the Toms kit comes with the Power Brake Kit and the bronco graveyard doesn't.

Power disk brakes are really nice, plus an added safety feature. There seems to a a trend for the Bronco's running large tires to use a hydroboost system

Here are other options from a different vendor

-and/or-

Also there are other options for the hydro system, such as using a system from an Astro Van, and from I understand this is considerable less expense

And here are some recent threads from the tech forum that may be good reading for you

Installed the TBP kit on mine years ago- just discs/ no power and then went DIY superduty hydroboost earlier this year. Holy smokes stops incredible, almost couldn't believe it coming from manual brakes.

The wilwood kit would be icing on the cake though, look pretty sweet for the money. Running their adj. prop valve and it is an awesome piece and works great.

There is a cheaper route. Go find knuckles, spindles, and hubs off a '73-'79 F150 or '78-'79 Bronco. Then order the knuckle sleeves from JBG for $18, buy new calipers, bearings/races, and rotors from the parts store.

Not trying to knock the vendors out of a sale, just throwing another option in the mix. ;)

They guy on eBay is the provider of the kits to the vendors. The vendors have some packages combined, may help save you money on shipping. The better option is the Ford setup as mentioned by JGbronc. I went that route, costs a little more elbow grease to recondition but a much beefier system all the way around. Combine it with new calipers from a 76 T Bird (direct bolt on, something like 30% larger piston) get ceramic pads (again for the T Bird) and you can eliminate the proportioning valve if you are running drums in the rear. I have less than $300 in my front disk conversion.
