Need some help and some pictures (engine stuff)

I have recently purchased a 1975 Ranger and I am having a hard time figuring out what the previous owner has done under the hood.

The 2 biggest things at this point are the oil sending unit - can not seem to find one, but did find a nice shiny bolt in the side of the engine near the oil filter. I don't suppose anyone has a quick picture of their oil sending unit do they? Just want to verify that the bolt is where the unit should be. The wire that connects it the the guage (white with red stripe) has been cut off and left hanging next to the power steering pump.

The second is all of the smog equipment on the vehicle. I have more damn vacuum lines then I know what to do with. There is all sorts of vacuum tubes and stuff that has been disconnect and left just hanging around. Are there any diagrams or schematics of the smog setup on a 1975 Bronco with a 302? I have the Haynes manual but it is not a whole lot of help.

Any help you guys can provide would be much appreciated.

Oh yeah - as most projects on this Bronco so far - this is going to be interesting.

Do you see that post of spacer that looks six sided and about 2 inches long that the oil pressure sender is attached to...........Well mine does not have that (Holly Crap, imagine that, my lovely Bronco is missing a critical part that the previous owner just decided to bypass and now I get to try an fix!)

Any ideas as to whether I can find one someplace and reinstall it? There are several "U Wrench It" salvage yards about 30 minutes north of me but I have been waiting for warmer weather before I ventured up to them. Maybe they would have one?

You might find that spacer new at a dealership in town for less than sixty minutes worth of gas. That is assuming you live in town.

I bought one about 3 years ago at the dealer and it only cost like 15 bucks. For that it wasn't worth scrounging through the pick-a-parts, IMHO.

Yes you can buy one at the dealer. Be careful b/c those bastards have a tendency to break off at the block. I would check to see that it didn't happen to the previous owner. Good luck.

I will have to look when I change the oil this weekend and make sure that the old on did not break off in the block (although there is a bolt threaded into the hole right now).

The part - if anyone wants to know - is called an "Oil Pressue Sender Fitting" and costs......you'll never guess.......$40.00 plus tax. I about dropped the phone when the Ford dealer told me the price. May have to treck up to the salvage yards this weekend after all.

Try to find a steel one. Aluminum ones break off in the block with one slip of the wrench or less.

I see that Tom's Bronco sells new ones for $35 or used for $18. If you can wait for shipping time..

I'm pretty sure I've got a perfectly good spare one of those lying around the garage somewhere - if you want it and can use it, it's yours...just pay for the shipping.

Let me know...

Easy, cheaper, and in my opinion a better fix is get a 4" x 1/4 copper pipe nipple, a 45deg 1/4 pipe elbow and you are in business, plus it's less likely to break!

Well, had a good look and removed the bolt in the engine block where the "oil pressure sender fitting" should be and jtcamp was right - damn thing is broken off in the block. Pretty sharp too, I managed to slice open my thumb real nice like and get some nice clean oil in the cut to boot.

Thanks to eBronc for the offer but since I don't have any place to do serious work on the Bronco (yet) it is back off to my mechanics garage for him to fight with. The only good news is that he said he is sure he has a spare fitting laying around back that he will install for free (the part not the labor).

Thanks for the help guys.
