Neutral safety and backup wiring

Am I correct that the neutral safety switch just completes the circuit for the backup lights and starter when in the appropriate position? Meaning it doesn't matter on power in and power out?

I think you are right because I hooked mine up with the 12v+ both ways and it worked. just make sure they are not the ones for the b/u light. I think my b/u wires were blue with a stripe. one side is for the neutral part one female one male on top of each other then the other half one male and one female are for backup (I talking about the plug itself) hope that helps

As for the location, what trans are you running? C4 and 4R70W they are on the side of the transmission where the shift arm goes into the case. AOD they are on top of the transmission. Some aftermarket shifters put them on the shifter directly. Manual trans doesn't have a nuetral start switch but the factory back up light switch is on the column where the shift arms turn and go down to the transmission.
