What dipstick and what dipstick tube are you using? Just because the dipstick reads full, if it isn't correctly paired to a matching tube the lengths will be off. Actual fluid level is low but dipstick is too far into the pan.

Is the filter installed? If not it will be as if you are low on fluid as the pickup is at the valve body and not the bottom of the pan.

The lost 3rd/4th is generally a direct clutch failure, broken stub shaft, or split hub. But with slippage issues, I go with failed clutch.

I've got an dipstick story that is related! :)

Bought a slant six Dodge Dart 45 yrs ago. Checked the oil, dipstick said full and I sent my wife on her way over the Pass. Got a call from the Truck weigh station operator who said I needed to come tow our car off the freeway. I came out with the Bronco (keeping this EB related) :) and towed her home on the freeway. (we could do those things 40 yrs ago).

Anyway, rod knock BIG TIME. Checked the oil and it was still full. Hmmm.... pulled the drain plug to pull the pan and no oil came out. The dipstick when installed all the way hits the pan and bends so when there is about 1 qt in the pan it shows "full" on the stick.. no idiot light ever came on, no noises till it quit.

WOW, one of my first lessons learned.... with many more to come! lol

good story/learning lesson. Thanks for sharing.

I have another stock explorer dipstick/tube and they all match so I think I am good on fluid. I remember seeing the dipstick well into the pan when the pan was off. The builder said if it was 3-4 quarts low it would act up, but if i am within a quart or so, I will be OK.

Tucker- I'd like to apologize for answering your thread earlier. I'm quite positive my recent bad luck with engines has rubbed off on you since I responded to your post. I'm sorry!

:)
