Just got it today, bought from my boss, and drove home tonight. Having some problems. Drive home was fine with the exception of a horrible clunk of a
shift from 1st to 2nd. Crawled underneath thinking worn U-joints, but they look good. Started moving to transmission, and think I found the issue. There are two rubber mounts on transmission, attach to a crossmember. Well, one is missing, the other was about to lose the nut, and fall off. Tightened the one remaining mount, and was going for a quick test drive

This is where things went from bad to worse. Truck kept sputtering and stalling. The drive home, engine never missed a beat. Felt and sounded it was starved for fuel, out of gas. Gauge tells me half a tank, but no idea the accuracy of gauge. Then things got really bad. After 4-5 restarts, the starter decides to stick on! Truck is running, barely, and I am limping it home. Get back to garage, turn off key, remove key, and starter is still going. I scramble out. Get the hood open, and luckily grab the correct wrench. I get the neg cable off the battery, and finally it is over! I thought for sure I was about to have a new to me bronco catch fire at the starter! Then I touch neg cable to battery post, and starter starts going again. I just got done pulling the starter, but what now. Is the starter likely damaged. It was hot, too hot to really handle an hour or so after this ordeal. What could have caused this issue? Bad starter, or stuck solenoid? Am I better off just replacing both?

Am now going to start searching for where to buy a new transmission mount.

Thank you, and look forward to joining all you Bronco owners.

Welcome and congrats ! That's one ruff first ride. Your right new starter and solenoid and that should do it , it could also be a problem the your switch so it does it after replacing those parts I would look at the switch .

Located the rubber mounts, they are called Transfer Case Mounts, not transmission, which doesn't make sense to me.

Going to go buy a starter and solenoid. On this starter, solenoid is on inner wheel well, correct, not on starter body?

Thank You
