Finally got this home today. I made a deal with the guy 5-6 weeks ago but he’d lost the title so we had to wait for a new one. I also got some parts with it but I don’t know what yet. He has to dig them out of storage. I know there’s two brand new chrome bumpers wrapped in Ford cardboard and a nice set of stock hubcaps. Anyway this is a ‘76 sport automatic. Had a repaint in 1990. A tank full of stale gas. New rear brakes and lines. I just got her Home and took the old carpet out to see what it looks like. Should I just order a new tank and lines and rebuild the carb first thing? I had it running for 5 minutes til the heater control valve broke and antifreeze started spewing. Thoughts?

As Chico (from "Chico & The Man) would say,

Loooking Good!

Pump out all old fuel.
Maybe drop the tank.
Sending unit may look pretty rough.
A stockish capacity new poly tank is pretty cheap, new metal one is even cheaper.

Blow lines out a little.

Definitely rebuild carb.

Full tune up if it were me. That way you know what is new or not.

Check those rear axle bearings too.

Looks good to me. I had thought about switching to a plastic heater control valve, but just cleaned up my metal control valve and kept using it because I was worried about the durability of the plastics valves. I also changed out the original fuel tank too but that was more about an intermittent dying problem I was try to track down, which it solved. Your floor looks better than mine does under my mat. Well done in my opinion for what that is worth

Thanks guys. The new bumpers are going on my copper one I think. The ones I take off it will go on the wife’s half cab so I won’t have any extras. Hey Mark, the trailer has hauled 3 different broncos since I’ve had it. It pulls great but my wife painted it Blue and Gold with a WVU logo planned for the floor of it.

That’s a smooth pulling trailer for sure. I bet it looks good with blue and gold paint. Much better than the “anti-theft orange”

Nice congrats!! Just my 2 cents of course, but if I'm pulling an old tank with old fuel, a new tank is going back in it's place. :)

I need a set of NOS bumpers! ;D

Nice find! I agree with replacing the tank and sending unit. That'll make a great driver as is!

Update. Tried syphoning all I could get out of the rear tank and put on a new fuel filter. Cut the line and tried to run it out of a 5 gallon can. I filled the fuel bowl and it would run until the carb ran out of gas. Previous owner said he thought the auxiliary tank leaked so I figured it was empty. Decided to check it and it was full and it smelled pretty good. So I switched tanks and started it. It sputtered for 5 minutes then smoothed out. It ran like a new one. I drove it about 15 miles with no problems. Idles good. Starts easy. I even tried it out in the mud
