Hello all. First I would like to say I am new here and love the site so far.

My question is I have new Wild Horses door hinges and I am having issues with the doors shutting. The hinge arm is hitting the door skin and wont allow the door to shut. Has anyone had this issue and if so any recommendations?

Matt

I just went thru this, I replaced my stainless quick removal hinges with a set from TBP, let me just say it was NOT fun. Me and a buddy messed with different adjustments over and over to get my doors to open and close properly, after getting them to work, the alignment was way off, so start all over again and again and again, I think I'm gonna have a shop fix my problem, I'm sick of trying LOL, sorry I can't help more, good luck.

Well sorry about that SleekBronco. Hate it when I say "first I've heard of it" especially when others have obviously heard of it before.
Our hinges are fairly new to us, but I don't remember which company we get them from off the top of my head.

I would definitely call in the morning, but better still would be to e-mail those pics to sales@wildhorses4x4.com so they have them as a reference a head of time so everyone can have a look and see what the problem is. I can't really tell from the pics what is going on, but I'm sure someone there will be able to pull a set off the shelf and compare notes.

Again, sorry for the hassle. We hate it when a part doesn't fit too! Having it happen on a weekend is just more frustration.
Oh, and welcome to classicbroncos too!

I had the exact issue with hinges I bought. I ordered the ones from Tom's and they matched the profile of my originals and fit much better. Adjusting is a different animal altogether. Good luck.

For what it's worth, The NOS D6 hinge I keep to compare after market replacements to, is 0.745" in the measurement pictured above. So it's .005" less than 3/4", and 0.067" less than the TBP hinge, and 0.12" more than "the others".

I fought this one also. Probably not the best solution but I used a variety of hinges and even bend one a bit until I finally got a real nice fit. I must have pulled the doors 50 times before I was satisfied.

If you had a good fit before you might try rebuilding your existing hinges. It might save a lot of guess work. I think this is the most frustrating part of a Bronco built by far. Good luck.

My work as a finish carpenter taught me to cure many hinge alignment problems with shims under one side or the other of the hinge. By shimming under the bolts away from the hinge pin, the bolts near the hinge pin become a pivot point. The door half of the hinge is inside the door, so any shimming would be hidden. This would be a trial and error process.

My SS hinges were a bear to align also. Finally got them close enough. But almost more important to me than aligning and closing, was how tall their profile is. They are damn near the same height as the opening in the door skin they go through. So while moving and adjusting, you are contacting and cracking the perfectly good paint on the door skin. %)

Anybody thinking of SS hinges, install before new paint!
