New guy in Oklahoma City saying hello!

I've been lurking the forums for several months, researching, looking for the right purchase. I finally made the drive from Oklahoma City to Albuquerque, NM about 3 weeks ago to buy my first EB. It was a 69' that appeared to be what I was looking for. 302 with less than 300 miles on it, 3 speed converted to floor with a TBP kit, new exhaust, 3 in suspension lift and a set of 32X11.50X15's. After a dozen conversations with the owner, I made the decision to hook up the trailer and head out for the 9 hour drive. It was far from what was described, as the owner chose to withhold small things, like the fact that it wouldn't drive more than about a mile before it started bogging down and backfiring. After about 15 minutes trying to get it to start, we took it for a spin. Couldn't take it far, because it "only had about a gallon of gas in it." I found out when I got it home that was because both tanks pissed gas out of different areas when you added more than that. The worst part, I was already invested in dragging a trailer 600 miles, so luckily the deal was good enough that I could accept some of the untold flaws. Even more luckily, I had my cousin who knows mechanics inside and backwards with me, otherwise I would have kicked the guy in the nuts and left. I bought it on a gamble, based on my cousins diagnosis that the running issues where most likely timing related. The PO thought it was overheating, but really, it was just shooting fireballs out of the carb. Door handles didn't work. Windows were off the track. "Minor fiberglass damage" on the hood was really a split straight up the middle. Regardless, I made the purchase and started the trip home.

Fortunately, a little time with a timing light and it was purring like a kitten. Unfortunately, I left the key in the on position on accident on day 2 and fried the points and the coil. Good excuse for me to piece together a full MSD setup on Craigslist. I got a 6AL box, a Pro-Billett distributor, and a blaster 2 coil for $200 and put it all together.

I couldn't believe the way it runs. Even after sitting for several days, no gas, no choke, just reach in hit the key and it fires first crank. For some reason, I the stock alternator couldn't support the MSD, so I ended up throwing a 3G in and all those problems went away. Didn't make sense, as the MSD is only supposed to pull 1A per 1000 RPM, but I'm not asking it questions, it runs great. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. I got it at the right pricepoint, so all of the issues were frustrating, but didn't really set me back much financially. At the end of the day, I'm a happy Bronco owner!

Needless to say, I'm not a patient man. It's been 3 weeks, and beside the MSD, I have done some serious wiring overhauls, stripped the interior and redone the insulation, carpet, and replaced the half ass two bolt mounted seats the PO had in it with a set of Corbeau RS's with a Safari fold and tumble. Also cut the front fenders for flares to match the rear.

Alot of work left to do. The doors and windows are fixed. I have almost all of the equipment on hand to do a 4X4X2 conversion with hydroboost (Thanks Scrapman!). I'm sourcing all of the front disc parts for the Dana 30. I have a new hood standing by, and a full family roll cage to weld up. Also have a body lift and new poly mounts sitting in a box in the garage. Now I just need to find the time....

First of all congrats!

Second, that guy is a d!ck for sure. Luckily you got it figured out.

You've made a ton of progress in a few short weeks. I'm just up the road in okc. I would love if you would give me holler before doing that ps box and h-boost swap as I want to do the same thing to mine and want to see what I'm in for. I'll PM you my number.

Welcome!! Nice to know I'm not the only CBer in the state with a white EB. You've made a lot of progress in a short while. The weather is good, we should make a OKC get together sometime. Mine hasn't made the 90 mile trek to OKC yet, it's about time.

That would be cool. If it's not real soon, it would have to be at my garage. I think she'll be going down for several weeks in the near future.

Welcome! Glad to see the progress and it's obviously not your first rodeo. That's a good thing with the EB's so you can bring it to where you want it.

Keep the pics coming! B2

Not sure I'm ready for a show, or even a shine, but let me know and I'll try and stop through. Any other OKC guys planning on making the trip?

Maybe Kyle will chime in. I'm active duty Air Force, so my schedule is always made the day before (or at least it seems that way). I should be off most of the day though. It would be cool to hook up.
