Back from Mexico, alive and all went well ;-)
a lot of check points in the us thru Arizona, all very cool guys, no dumb questions. In Mexico all very professional also on the several state, federal and military check points. I got to see how the US checks for drugs and illegal issues and well as Mexican procedures, very interesting.

San Carlos Sonora is beautiful, the kids want to go back soon for a real vacation.

Now finally, GOD willing I will wrench on the EB Saturday, gotta go get an Alternator from a explorer.

Great build! I have a 73 that I will be starting after I do some work to my sons 87 B2. I will be posin pics etc on his B2 as I go and then I will start on my EB. I am planning to rebuild the 302 and convert to roller ($60 bux from summit I think). I will be going efi, just havent decided which route, either FORD efi or Powerjection III that I have been reading about. Kind of partial to popping the hood and seeing a carb but who knows, will cross that bridge sometime this comeing summer... Good luck to you and keep up the good work!

Cowboy, keep in mind the 91-93 cougar/t-bird engines, they are 5.0l HO already, forger crank, rods and pistons, not as beat as the stang engines and already rollers with better heads. I got new bearings, rings, oil pump, timing set, seals and gaskets for a couple of hundred and paid 150 for the complete engine at the pick yourself yard on their 1//2 off weekend sale.

Let me know if you need any pics or help:cool:

See you are teaching us something new every day. I have a local pick and pull who is more interested in scrapping then parts that recently got in a decent exploder. I have to go by there tomorrow to see if it is a V8 or not. I have never personally built a V8 but I am not afraid...LOL I am trying to learn what I can and I am a bit anal in how things are done.... go figure, I have little patience to teach things to anyone yet when it comes to my projects I take all the time I need to do it right but as you hav shown us in your build, I always find another gear and get things done pretty quick when I finally start them. I know I want to do a serpentine drive off of an exploder so maybe it would be better just to pick the whole engine and harness etc. I can always sell what I dont use later but have the options....

Ideally a complete explorer engine and trans, including harness and computer, would be the easiest. I changed my mind from carb to EFI. let me know what you find, and have fun, I had to convince my self that part of the EB lifestyle includes the build process, that is why I sold my 2003 cobra stang, I added HID lights to it and was done, the thing was pretty much perfect from the factory and the dealer had done the CAI, pully, chip, suspension, catback exhaust, window tinting, racing stripes, it became a little boring after 8 months, I really like upgrading and working on my cars.

my bro got me the PS reservoir and alternator from a 2000 5.0l moutaneir, he got the brackets, water pulley and ps pump for his 74 351w paid $75 for everything, I think he winked at the cashier girl.
we will go Sunday to pull the crank balancer and timing cover for his.

tomorrow I plan to clean the explorer brackets and upper and lower intake to permanently install. i also want to start mocking up the front grill/fender assy and radiator. gotta stop at the parts store on the way home tonight and get the serpentine belt and intake lower to upper gasket.

Got the front back on

got a belt, it tuned out it was too short, the cougar pulley is a little bigger in diameter than the explorer. got one that was 1" longer 6k849, had to add spacers to the alternator to get the tensioner into the 1/3 zone. I will look for a 837'ish belt once I start up the engine.
cleaned upper and lower intakes and installed into engine.
mocked up the inner grill support versus ramcharger radiator/fan assy and decided to move the passenger side front body mount. cut mount from old frame and welded in place, also had to move the matching grill support mount.
sun ran out and mounted hood and fender/grill assy on EB, looks cool.

my bro finished the hood install on his 74, that WH hood looks sweeet;D

tomorrow going to get balancer and pulley from Boneyard for my bro's 74 and will mount the radiator and fan into mine.

all in all good progress and fun.;D

went to bone yard and pulled the balancer and front timing cover from a 5.0L HO 1993 cougar with 119k miles.
worked on modifications and fab to fit the large radiator and electric fan, I am very happy with the outcome, the cougar/explorer serpentine set up is looking sweet. I started on the sum frame to the fenders, I am using angle steel stock to bolt to the tub and weld to the radiator/grill internal support. i plan to be able to easily remove the grill and fenders as one clip and hood as I please. that will make future work/upgrades easier.

I am still doing some mind design on the battery support, I have the ramcharger batteries I want to use, 200 dollars worth of batteries and isolator. I am contemplating mounting one on top of each shock hoop, but will need to run a brace from hoop to hoop over engine, of from frame to battery support.

My BRO with his super hitec phone, no he does not want to monitor the engine from it;D, found a buyer for the old steel hood, sold it and we are splitting the money, I figure since he sold me the EB at such a un-refusable price he should benefit from what ever I do not need. the hood was ion perfect shape, no rust, dents or bondo, needed to be sanded, primered and painted. the Eb owner that bought is is building a 66 3 sp manual EB. Another South San Diego Bronco, they are multiplying

did a little painting on the radiator support, but the sucky weather and Tijuana clubbing (I felt 20 years old again) got in the way, 2 bottles of Grey Goose, wife, Bro and girlfriend, nephews and girlfriends, light, fog and loud music. I now feel 40 again, I do not know how I was able to pull that stuff every weekend. It was cool to be able to hang with the 20 year old's ;D

My god son Ernie turned 22,

My boys are old enough where I can trust them with my nephew to just game, black ops network party they call it.

4 day weekend, here I come, I want to finish the grill/fenders supports, radiator supports and new bases for the hood pins. probably a lot more, unless family gets on the way

last weekend I worked on the front steel that will hold the fenders grill and radiator support in place, we had some rain, I really need some sort of cover.

Tomorrow I plan to officially mount the radiator/fan assy, engine oil and trans coolers and do a bit of sheet metal work to be able to mount the front clip.

thanks for asking

finished mounting the coolers, shortened both engine oil cooler hoses, tightened everything up and even the PH8a from the Ramcharger fit. all in all very pleased with the progress this week, I am missing 2 items to be done with the cooling lines, upper and lower radiator hoses, and transmission cooling lines, I have a new thermostat housing and need a new 180 degree stat.

hoping to continue the week after xmas, gotta do a VEGAS run for my honey's b-day:cool:

Thanks

Man G, your kickin the snot out of that thing, I can't believe I just found this thread, lookin good.;D

I had to slow down due to a few issues, weather, family, work etc. and understand that I really want to create a budget daily driver that will satisfy my off-road desert (baja) needs and be as powerful and capable as my 76 ramcharger. a big part of this is the BUILD, I am carefully doing things that I always wished my Ram had: EFI, disc rear brakes, OD to name a few, and of course the the inherent EB over Ramcharger blessings: coolness factor, FORD, size, front coils also to name a few.

my Ramcharger was parted and I kept a lot of items that I knew I could use on my EB, the cooling system was one, and now it is in there. ;D;D

OK, I got one more weekend of honey dos before I can get back to my EB build. the holidays, dentists, parties, yard, boys and MTBikes, breaking frames.....

On a EB note: I found a machine shot to re-drill my explorer rotors to match the rear 9".

OK, I think I am ready to start work back on the EB, work, weather, family and MTBiking got in the way. I am going to start with the steering column this weekend, out of a 82-84 f-150 or fullsize bronco.

Any ideas which column fits the best?
