I'm pretty well versed on FJ40's but I'd like to study up on early Bronco's.

What I'm looking for is a timeline of improvements Ford made over the 66 to 77 model years. If I'm going to buy one, I would like search out the year(s) that offer a good blend improvements while still exuding the iconic Bronco looks. With FJ's it's pretty easy, they kept getting better till 83, which was the final year in the US.

Thanks in advance!

Greg:

Here's an article that will get you started:

Pay no attention to the production numbers mentioned as some of those are in error.

As for improvements, generally speaking the early Bronco is like the FJ - in stock form they got better as the years progressed.

i love the FJ 40's ausome trucks.

As far as a bronco goes id say 68 or later. 66's have some wierd things and arnt interchangable. Pretty much a bronco is a bronco dont matter what year there all the same. The later years came with power steering, disk brakes, power brakes, automatics, dana 44 fronts, etc. But all that stuff can be added to a earlyer year. Most of the time the earlyer ones are already retrofited with these parts.

I have a 68 and like it better because its the same as the later years but it dont have all the ugly running lights and reflectors. It also has small front grill lights. The 68 is the last year for removable window frames which i love. Also in minnesota 68 and older dont need front plates.

What i have learned is the year on the title is just a number. Dont worry about the year as much as what has been done to it as far as mods and updates.

I want to THANK you folks for the very helpful links. I am learning! If you like Bronco's, you probably like other vintage 4x4's. I thought ya'll might like this picture I took in the backyard earlier this Fall. I'm now eyeballing a 66 Half Cab to get my feet wet with Bronco's.
