Gas Pig's thread about his U13 and its previous owner inspired me. I had info on one of the previous owners of my 75 Sequoia Brown but didn't know if he was the original owner or just a momentary caretaker of the brown beast. A quick search and I found a phone number and address that matched the old registration.
When I called Troy, he was still out hunting but his wife said he should be back shortly and to call back. I called a little later that evening and Troy gave me a lot of info on my Bronco that confirms some of the things I found over the last several months trying to get it back on the road. He said he was the second owner and bought it in 76 when it was only about a year old and it had 17K mile on it. He even told me the original owner name (more searching to do).
Here's why I titled this thread the way I did. "That Bronco has almost 400,000 miles on it" was one of the first things he told me. It still has the original motor although its been rebuilt once at around 250,000 miles. A timing chain replacement at 170,000 miles. The odometer is reading 47,xxx or so miles so I am guessing he isnt too far off, thinking 347,xxx. I have only driven it a few times and it squeaks and rattles like crazy, needs most of the weather stripping replaced but still runs strong.
Troy told me that the Bronco was their only vehicle for many years and he drove it to work every day. It took them to every baseball and football game his son played in and "hunted a bunch of quail" in the 35 years he had it. He reluctantly sold it about 2011 since he wasn't driving it and it needed the brakes redone and one of the side windows on the hardtop got shot out (kids with BB guns). He mentioned that the timing chain cover had a crack in it and leaked pretty bad, it still does!
(my next project)
The truck changed hands a couple of times (3) over the last few years but was never put back on the road. One thing he mentioned was the couple that bought it from him didn't care about the title because they only wanted it for hunting and playing in the woods. So several months after he sold it, he threw out the title since they didn't take it. (title isn't need in Al before 76).
I asked if he would like to see if again and he said of course, so I plan on getting a few other things fixed and taking it by and talking some more with Troy. The Bronco was sold new in Montgomery AL and stayed in the area ever since.
Sorry to be so long winded but thought I would share a little history that made me smile. Maybe I need to start quail hunting
