I just recently purchased a NP 435 from a fellow forum member and got a great deal. However, after inspecting it I saw I need a input bearing. The bearing is the tapered type bearing. Can anyone give me a part number for this bearing? If it was a Napa number it would be great but, any number would be a step in the right direction. Thank you in advance.

If you have one bearing that is suspect you might as well overhaul the entire thing. Changing out the bearing could change the pre-load that's on it which if incorrect could cause it to wear out/gears mesh improperly...requires some some precision measurement tools and a small press.I did mine in my carport. It wasn't too hard. Pick up a dial indicator and some tech data....the overhaul kits are available at most of the online Bronco Huts for about 100 bucks.

Meh - if I wanted it fixed I would replace the bearing. If I wanted to know what made it tick I would rebuild it. I tore down a 4wd trans to fix my 2wd trans - its stupid easy.

The tools you see in the pics are all I used-

If you still want to replace just the bearing (race and seal too naturally), it should be an HM88649 (cone/bearing) and HM88610 (cup/race) with a 482163N seal.
Should be the same from '65 through '87.

But like they said, you're there already, so you might as well refurb the whole thing and find out what you really have. Minimal investment in money, with a bit more delay in time perhaps, but will be worth it.
