To all who have an NP435 with a Detroit locker in the rear, does your bronco get squirrelly driving around town? I mean can you tell that the locker engages and dissengages during shifting? I am planning on changing gears in the rear and was thinking about a locker and was told that with a manual tranny and a detroit it isn't always fun to drive. Any other lockers have the same problem? What would be a good locker to go to in a daily driver?

Yep, you got it right. I run a 435 with a Detroit 100% locker on my 67. It really rocks on the Rubicon but takes some getting used to on the street. In the ice and snow it can really be a challenge. The soft locker is better for lots of street, it is about 70% lock up. My son runs it on his 77 and I don't feel anything on the street. There are tons of other options.

Good luck

Its just a little different. Once you learn it's characteristics it's not too bad. Once I get my suspension done. You can take mine for a spin and see what I mean. You will go through you tires more quickly.

I ran a Detroit behind the 435 for many years. I could tell in the corners and sometimes down the road, when the soft locker engaged/disengaged. I am now using ARB's front and rear, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Streetability is far superior with a disengaged rear end, plus I can run highway speeds now with the front engaged if needed. Tires last alot longer as well.:)
