so, as some have seen I have posted quite a bit on my woes of the nv3550 install. So my last was what should it sound like. well I had said it was very noisy, well I discovered that it was not the trans that was making that ticking sound but it was my exhaust. Since I have EFI I put in a crank case evac system and I had it routed from my valve covers to the exhaust with an air oil separator. so after I put in the 3550 I took the truck to a muffler shop and after they was finished I told the before to hook up the tubing. I guess they did not do it. cause I went under there the other day to take it off to unhook it cause I put on new valve covers. so after I hooked everything all up it is whisper quiet no more rattle or anything thing. Trans does not make a sound and it is a real joy to drive now. looks like I can put in carpet now. now I hope these new valve covers will seal better than the last. thanks for all the help on this fiasco. on to the next project.

Great news mule! What a relief, eh?

...Since I have EFI I put in a crank case evac system and I had it routed from my valve covers to the exhaust with an air oil separator....

Well now you've got my interest all over again. I don't understand that statement.
Why would you do that first of all, and why especially would you do that because of running EFI?
Seems like it should be the opposite. EFI should negate any kind of a road-draft tube affair I would think.

Interested to hear the why's-and-wherefore's.

Thanks

Paul

well, when I had the upper intake hooked up properly the way it should be it kept sucking up all kinds of oil. I tried rigging up a way to separate the oil but it was too tuff. that is why just went around the intakes and went straight to the valve covers and it was easy to put an oil separator there. can't say if that was the right thing to do but seemed to work good and it is still a closed system now.

so, now my upper intake is completely seal off no connection to any pcv, sealed it all on my valve covers I routed it from the valve covers to the oil/air separator to the exhaust before the muffler about 8 inches behind the collector. so now with the right baffled valve covers I only get a little oil being sucked out but at least I can take of the catch can and dispose of it every so often without it going into the exhaust and making it smoke like crazy. I hope that makes sense. ill try to get some good pics up here soon.

I know the feeling with the exhaust leak. I thought I bent a valve or damage some engine internals when I had a loud tick at high RPM. Turned out to be my exhaust manifold gasket. New gasket, stage-8 bolts, and ticking is gone. That one was a little embarrassing.. :-[
