NV4500 install help/questions

Hey everyone...I am about to install my 4500 with a 205. I believe I have all the parts and everything ready. Just wanted to pick a few brains that have done it before.

I have the WH crossmember, brackets, centerforce clutch, and pressure plate.

Already have the adapter plate and extra 5.0 bellhousing attatched. I have the 2" BL so no clearance issues.

Any common problems or issues with the install?

Any other ideas or anything else I should get to make the installation as smooth as possible?

Thanks for any input.

I installed my NV4500 about 2 years ago, mated to a Dana20. Biggest issue for me was getting the twin stick shifter bracket worked out. Not sure about the 205 shifting, but you may want to get that worked out before installing anything.

I replaced the old Ford three-speed. From what I remember I had to install a different pilot bushing.

I am wondering how you mated the 205 to the 4500?
I thought the drivers side drop 205 was only a Ford item
I thought the Ford was only offered in 31 spline input.
I didn't think the 4500 could be had with a 31 spline output.
Did you put a GM or Dodge input into the 205 for it to mate to the 4500?

Actually, I bought it from another guy that was swapping to an auto. He already had everything mated up, had the adaptor for the 5.0, and the bellhousing on it. He was running on a F250 w/ 5.0 and D60 front and rear. Kinda surprised me he was getting rid of it but it is clean as hell.

The 205 isnt a real big concern for me because I am swaping that out to the atlas 4sp shortly after. I just need to get it in there for the time being. I probably wont even run it in 4x4 until I put the atlas in there.

Any id plates that I can check out on the T-case to make sure its a 205? I was just going off what he told me.

I've got an NV4500/205 in my F150 behind a 429 and it uses an intermediate female/male spud shaft to convert the splines. You have to shorten the output shaft a little so that the spud has room in the tailhousing and you want the Dodge NV4500 housing for the Ford applications, although mine has the heavy-duty Chevy main shaft since it was a rebuild anyway. This is all using Advance Adapters stuff...others may be different.

The comment regarding the pilot bushing is definitely something to keep in mind as it isn't something you want to figure out while you've got 350# of transmission and transfer case in the air. I know I had to make a pilot pushing for the deeper counterbore in the 429 crank due to the input shaft length.
