NV4500 square stub- how to attach shifter?

Hi guys,

Well, I purchased a NV4500 that was rebuilt, and out of a '97 dodge (gas) with the 23spline output shaft... Looks great, so I ordered all the parts to do the swap from WH-much thanks to Mark at WH!

So I have found that there are two style shifter stubs on the NV4500 (actually 3, but for this its easier to say 2). There is a threaded stub, newer style that is removeable from the top plate... and there is a stub with a square stub sticking up-this is what I have.

How am I supposed to attached the WH (advanced adapters) shifter for the NV4500, which has an angled coupler type thing and is round, to the square stub? is there a coupler or something that I need?

I jumped the gun last night, after learning that my parts arrived from WH, I got the driveshafts off, and the tranny and tcase out. Supprising that I did all this in about 2 hours!

I was hoping to get everything together and bolted over the next several nights (afterwork) so that I could get my driveshafts into the shop for shortening/lengthening...I dont want to be limited for something as dumb as- well, myself not figuring out something as easy as the shifter!

Any help? know what part(s) I may need to make it work?

Thanks!

(Rig is a 70, with a 302 that is tbi, 4.11's and on 33" tires. not that that makes any difference.)

I already did. They had no clue that the nv4500 came with my style of shifter spud. It apears that I may be able to change the whole spud out for a threaded version.

I dont mind lift fabrication- dont we all- but I paid the $80 bucks thinking that I would have a ready to shift, shifter...

Anyother ideas? I cant believe that I am the only one ever encountering this problem.

Yup! If you want to measure that shifter I can see if the NV3550 one will work, If I remember correctly it was .760 (ish).
We can exchange that other one for it.

Well, that may be more easy to modify... The stub is right at .5", And therefore smaller than the 3550 shifter. Mark, does it look like I would have enough room to drill for a retaining bolt or two on a 3550 shifter?

Thanks!

I left you a voicemail.
I also figured out it was a lack of instructions that this thing needed for the odd ball early years.
I'm updating the website now.
Sorry for the lack of NV4500 knowledge on my part, I'm more of an NV3550 and Automatic fan.

Well, I hope I like the 4500. My wife will kill me if it turns out to be a turd.
I thought of doing a 3550, but I wanted the deep first for the trails.

Thanks again Mark. I was actually in my garage at 4:45am taking the spud off, and inspecting things to see what I was missing.

FYI, anyone who reads this thread- The older "bottle top" shifter spud comes apart and the supplied shifter from A/A and WH replaces the shift spud.

Now on to my 2 hours available to work on her after work...
