AFB IS the model. That's what Carter called them in '58 when they introduced them. In '66 they introduced the AVS that stands for air valve secondaries. Edelbrock also markets these and calls them Thunder Series. Which one are people referring to when they say Edelbrock carb? My point is, calling a carb an Edelbrock is neither correct nor specific.

Really? You're going to argue that the acronym for the model name is the model name? I have better things to do.

Correct terminology is the only effective way to communicate technical subjects. If ntsqt doesn't think an AFB is really an AFB what the hell does he think it should be called?

100% correct. For whatever being correct is worth..;D

The Edelbrock model your looking for is the 1826. To tune it for a 302 you'll need to go larger on the rods and turn the electric choke almost all the way out so it turns off within a minute or two. IF you choose this carb, you will probably like it unless your into extreme crawling and will be at all sorts of odd angles. I ran this carb for a couple of years and it served me well, in fact the best fuel economy I've ever seen with my Bronco was with that carburetor, 17.5!

"AFB" is the contracted model name because who wants to say "Aluminum Four Barrel" every single freakin time? BTW, cast mag wheel cleaner works excellent for cleaning these carbs and is fast.

Reviewed my notes and my "AFB" has the spring loaded needle/seat kit as well as the blocked-off transfer port. In spite trying several different Holleys on it and on-going tuning efforts, I never got the part-throttle drivability out of any of them that I got out of the AFB that I had on my last 302. Once I got the jetting sorted out in the AFB, I just drove it. A lot.
