Well I made a slight oops on the valve body. I thought I was VERY carefull and slow taking it apart and was watching for balls and springs and such, but I might of missed something. I installed a trans-go shift kit (I know there are free directions out there but this was cheap in conjunction with buying my tranny rebuild kit). Rebuild kit is not here and not sure what sort of diagrams it will have in it for the valve body, the haynes manual does not have much and I can't find a good one on the web, so I will post my two questions here:

#1)
I found this little ball, along with the 2 larger ones (I know where the large ones go) but I didn't see it come out and don't even know if it goes in my tranny, just happedened to find it laying with the valve body parts?

#2)
This instruction sheet talks about a rubber disk that I did not see come out and could not find anywhere. Did I lose it or is this a part not necisarry? The shift kit came with a metal disk of same size but its only refered to on the C5 instructions.

So what do you guys think? I know there are several of you that can answer this.

Ok the real tiny ball is supposed to be the same size as the larger one but its worn out and will not work properly. put the remaining ball in the bathtub. the ball that goes in the channel plate its ok to leave out it will give you a firmer 3rd gear. The hockey puck is also ok to leave out and many rebuilders do in order to give it a firmer 2nd gear. If you want the missing pieces to bring it back to stock I can send them to you. The VB needs 1 disc (hockey puck) and 2-3 check balls to function stock depending on which model it is. I cant tell from the pics you have unless you post pics of the 2 castings with the worm tracks visible. Hope this helps ~bh~

That helps alot. I do not want stock feeling, I like firm hard shifts hence why i am installing the shift kit.

I will leave the puck out.

Not sure about the balls. I will get a pic real quick of both pieces.

OK here is a better pic and I see two bath tubs, one on the lower piece and one on the upper (well, by lower I mean the piece the filter attaches to the back of and the upper has all ths springs and crap, thats a technical term, in it)

So will it function right by putting two balls in in both the bath tubs or what is my best plan of action? I like the firm shifts and want it to be dependable too.

Thanks
Dave

Already been to that link. But thanks. Decided for the $15 I'd rather get some new springs and such from a real kit, but I have heard that one works great.

Guessing I am just gonna put the two big balls back in the bath tub things (as per the instructions too) and leave the little one out. Hasn't hurt anything thus far. This is all starting to make sense, I always had a real nice and firm shift from 1 - 2 and a real soft shift from 2 - 3, must be due to that hoockye puck and worn out ball..... :-*

Thanks for the good info BH!

The arrows indicate where the hockey puck and the 3rd checkball goes. These 2 locations are not critical for proper operation. Shuttle balls in the two bathtub locations must be installed to avoid a malfunction.

The green dots are the bolt holes where you can insert awls or tapered punches to align the separator plate with the channel plate before tightening the bolts. this will help to properly fit the plate before the 2 VB halves are bolted together.
