Hoping to get an accurate value on what I should ask on a transmission I am going to sell. I havce a C4 and custom billet converter (1600 stall) that was built by Jay at Broader Performance in Weatherford TX. The transmission has about 1000 miles on it and works great with the exception of reverse. Has nice firm shifts as well. It slips slightly when backing up. My shift lever wasn't adjusted correctly and got stuck between gears when shifting manually. From what I understand this applies the 1st/ reverse band and put some wear on the reverse band. Would need an adjustment or replacement of the reverse band. Transmission operated flawlessly besides that. Actually drove it that way for a couple hundred miles before I descided to convert to the 4R70W. Jay builds and great transmission and would be and easy fix for someone. This transmision is good for up to 500hp according to Jay and has a custom low stall billet converter that goes with it as well as a aluminum deep pan. It is a pan fill transmission with dipstick modified to work with long tube headers. Hoping to get $1,200, am I dreaming????? Paid aroung $2800. Let me know yalls thoughts please.

I would think you are close if you can get the reverse band adjusted. Have you already gone 4r70w, or is that in the future. I am going to have one for sale soon, fresh rebuild, but torn seal that will need to be replaced. Has the Adapter. lol, we are in similar predicaments.

Honestly - replacing the reverse band is basically rebuilding the trans from a labor standpoint. The full guts have to come out - may not need clutches etc but anyone that deep into a trans will look at everything before reinstalling it into the truck. Therefore, it’s just a c4 needing rebuild.

Selling it “as is” will likely limit value to ~$750 for a rebuildable trans.

Get it back to 100%. You may see $2000…maybe. Thats after you spend $1000 to have it pulled and taken down to repair.

I did the 4R70W conversion a few years ago and this C4 has been sitting in my shop.

Wouldn't think it needs a full rebuild, has 1000 miles on it and operated just like it did when it was new, its just the reverse band. Probably should have the band replaced professionally and call it a day.

Take away doubt from the buyer…get it replaced and sell it as rebuilt +1000 miles. If you don’t resolve the issue, any buyer will assume worst case.

It will sell way faster for $750 than for $2k. And even at $2k who is to say they won't try to haggle you down.
