Just installed new aftermarket door handles from 1 of the vendors and can't seem to get it to open the door. The inner mechanism is working as it should.

Any tricks I need to know about to trouble shoot this issue?

Thanks.

If the inner cam on the new latch is rubbing against the door skin, pry it away with a screw driver.
I have been told in the past also to replace the cam lever with the old one from old door handle, suppose to help ease button from being to tight.

I am doing this remotely, so I have no pictures. The swing arm on the replacement outer door handle is wrong, so when you push the button you are not lifting the door lock mechanism with the rod high enough to open the door.
I know this because I had the same issue with my 71. Compare the new and old assemblies and should be able to see it. I swapped the old button and assembly into the new door handle to fix it.
My door handle was a Scott Drake replacement and my Vendor had no solutions other than taking it back. It appears SD is making one door handle that they think works in every Ford vehicle with the same style door handle?
Hope this fixes your issue...

I had the same problem with my replacement door handles. I had to use the parts from the old handles to make mine work also.

I had the same issue and the bar that attaches to the outer handle was not screwed in enough so there wasn't enough throw to unlock the latch. Screwed it in a couple turns and its now working fine. Get the door panel off and play with the bar that goes up to the outer handle. You'll quickly see if it moves up and down far enough to latch/unlatch
