Just wondering if there are new door seal's that are making the door close tight or even too tight. And making the button harder to push. Does the button push easier if you push in ward on the door handle just a bit, to relive some of the seal pushing out tension? Always a though to consider.

The new handle I have test installed is on a door that has no seals at all right now. Still takes a pretty firm thumb.

It's really has more to do with the mechanism behind the button. I had new door seals and once I got hold of repo handles that had the rounded tip and the higher leveraged/reinforced lever that was an exact copy of the original, it worked like butter. Someone suggested swapping out the original mechanism into the new handles would work. I thought about that also, but my originals were pretty beat up and scored where the tip had run over the lever countless times I just opted for a quality replacement. The other thing is to make sure all the rods and latches are correctly adjusted, and that everything is freshly greased.

When I got new handles the buttons on both doors were almost impossible to push in. Took panel off and watched the rods and mechanism while pushing button. Began bending, tweaking and lubing everything and now they are smooth and easy to push. The rods just bind up inside more so I think if they are new along with the door handles.
