Painless wiring question

So after some wrangling I got my dash off today. WOW what a tangled mess!!!
I picked up a painless harness from a guy here in town. It’s not the one specifically made for the Bronco but is a general 60s hot rod harness. My question is should I cut the wires to the instrument cluster and all the switches and save the hook ups so I can tie them into the new harness so it will plug into what I have. From the looks of it, I’m going to have to cut the harness out of the Bronco to get it out as it is just a tangled mess. Any other tips on the painless install would be great.
Thanks
Bryan

You are going to do a lot of cutting/splicing that way.
If you are staying stock, sell that harness and get the bronco specific. It will save you a ton of time.

Personally I would cut as little as possible and try and remove it as intact as you can. When I did mine seems like the few wires I did cut I wish i hadn’t for one reason or another. And splices just make for a lot of work and potential problems.
