I've long said that the three-on-the-tree shifter is a great anti-theft device in these modern times.

In the guys defense, the T shift mechanism looks a lot like the C4 shifter on an early Mustang. He surely would not mistake a J shifter for an automatic.

He mistook the J-shifter for a transmission floor shifter and proceeded to tell me that I was confused.

I got you beat. While in college, I had pure bred Boxer dogs. Whenever they had a litter, I would sell the pups. Anyways, some dude called me, based on my sale ad, and asked if he could come over next time to authenticate the purity of the puppies by seeing my dogs mate. Weird, right?!?!

It could be a supply and demand thing, I’m sure he’d prefer an EB, don’t be too hard on the guy! Classicbroncos could always use another member ;D

I had the thought one time about a four-door Jeep. But after a day or two I’ve repented of my sins and I’ve never been the same.

Hey, it's about to get even worse. Most young people have never even seen a manual floor shifted vehicle. Think about how many cars and vans you have seen that were not automatics. Seriously, I recently read in an automotive enthusiast magazine about a guy who took a couple of local kids for a drive in his vintage floor-shifted vehicle. The kids were delighted, but about half way through the drive, one of the kids says, "This is awesome. But why do you keep moving around that little stick on the floor?"

Well when I bought my 1972 7-8 years ago I have to admit I scratched my head for a min. Four shifters on the trans tunnel and not a knob on any of them. So three speed got put on the floor then twin sticks and the last one was a PTO winch. My first car in 1994 was a 1975 bronco 3 on the tree. I loved it I don't know why so many moved them to the floor.

Wonder what they'd say if they saw an Unimog (from Gaggenau around 1993).

Took Elmer to Sam's Club for new tires just to get same size and get him driveable. Took the guy 15 minutes to figure out it was a manual and how to shift it. He gets credit for sticking it out and figuring it out. Bummer was their hoist was a style that couldn't lift an EB without damaging body panels. Left without new shoes.

I took my Bronco to Jiffy Lube for an oil change. Went across the street for a coffee while I waited. Got a call 25 minutes later saying I had to come get my car... Probably needed a tow as it wouldn't go into drive.

Turns out, they had thought the j shift was the gear lever, totally missed the auto one on the column, and couldn't figure out why there was no clutch pedal. They had put the transfer case into neutral, so the engine was revving, but no motion.

Had a good laugh at that one.
