I'm looking for pics of how people have modified the Explorer coil bracket to clear the stock hood. I understand about 1" needs to be taken out of the height. Do most people retain the third mounting ear on the back of the bracket?

howdy.

here is what i did for my install (351W)

i did retain the back mounting screw. i carved out clearance for the fuel rail with a flap disk and got the entire assy as low as possible.

i cant get other pics if you want a different angle or such

I think tilting it down in the front is a good idea. I just tried mine today that I left flat and it just clears the hood. I left mine just tall enough to go over the returnless fuel rail and like I said flat. Pitching mine forward would have helped.

I bought one from someone here on the site that was designed to lower the bracket but don’t remember who it was

I did not take pictures but I did trim the legs down so it would clear the hood. Just drop it all the way down until the coils almost touch. I think I had to plan around the upper heater hose nipple on the passenger side. Angling it sounds like a hot ticket wish I did that! Once you shorten the legs you could be nice and grind them to blend them.

This is how low the bracket from Migs allows the coils to sit.
