I'm going to do the same thing on my '73 project. After seeing Rob Smithsons's "Obsession" at SOB a couple years ago with the FZR 1000 billit fuel doors, I knew I had to do it. There is a couple pretty good shots in Bronco Driver issue 15 on how Rob cut out the old tank and graphed it to his bronco. Not sure who started this trend, but I like it........I like it alot!!
the bung on the inner part of the tank cutout has about 1-2 inches of neck on it. You then cut your existing bronco filler neck (just the flange) and the two pieces meet together like they were supposed to.
Suggestion:
If you are doing thinking about doing this mod...do some research on the fuel door you would want.
Yamaha - It will say yamaha on the fuel lid (i did not want that)
Honda CBR - All it says is "push to close"
some suzuki and kawasaki fuel door are black with a silver ring
local motorcycle junkyard is the best...but ebay can be awesome...just keeping watching.
