As a concerned EBayer I just contacted the fraud department to let them know about this listing. They do have rules about listing vehicles without proof of ownership. I will keep you all posted as to what they find. Here's an email I just received from EBay.

That is very interesting since it doesn't run. I got a response back from the guy selling it and he said that it has no vin #'s on it any where, and that he painted it. Yeah, I'm sure he did! I have not heard anything back from EBay on this guy, but it's crazy people are bidding this thing up. It's now up to $1525.00, who are these idiots?

heh..i thought it might be some of you. bidding it up to an absurd amount just to yank the guy around.

if not though, i'd be half tempted to slap some old rusted, junk, and batterd parts together to make a "functional" bronco...then let the day care kids paint it for an art project. i'm sure id be delighted with the profits.

Hot Bronco

I dont know if you other guys noticed but I did a little zooming in on the interior picture and found the following.

If you get close to the glove compartment door you can see a data plate outline (very faint) that he has painted over.

The steering column has been changed, no cover on dash and unique steering wheel. Zooming in on the column brings out what appears to collapasible bellows. I believe this column is out of a Dodge car possiblely late 60's early 70's vintage.

The truck has a 4 speed manual in it. Who in their right mind would put a 4 speed manual (looks like one of the big truck tranny's) in a 6 cylinder truck??

Notice the funny shifter for the T-case?? Nothing any of us has seen. Talk about the butchers art this one is classical

This smells bad, worse than a fish 10 days out of water.

One of you guys in California please get on this mutt, it is hard enough hanging onto our machines, lets protect ourselves and take care of this one.

No matches for this number on anywho.com

Reason: No listings were found.

We searched on 4685108 in 818 however; we could not find any listings to display.

Possible solution: Please check your search information.

And another thing, in one of those pictures it looks like the picture taker has caught another picture taker in their picture with long pained finger nails.

Around here 1500 is cheap for a bronco in almost any condition, and the guy's reserve was set below that. I would be shocked if this rig wasnt stolen or had a very interesting story behind it.

Yes a little if I may.

Go see the truck, do not act aggressive or threatening to the man. Talk it up with the guy. ask a lot of innocent leading questions that he has to answer. EG "how come the new paint?" or " thats a real cool roof rack where did you get it?"
another good one if you are relating well with the guy is "Are you sure it is a 71, looks like a 69 to me "

To get him going ask if you can look under the hood. check the 6 cylinder claim. Lean over the passenger fender and look at the top of the frame. MAYBE you will see the VIN number memorize it. If not, look around see if there is anything under the hood that gives you any idea what it is (unique modifications, unusual add-ons you can talk up. Example, "Hey cool air cleaner where did you get it from" if it has an odd ball air cleaner. Ask where the air cleaner is if it does not have one. Ask about a Previous Owner, do this one only if he is really talking, if he clams up avoid the subject.

Get him talking and keep him going!! He will slip up on his story if he is making up one. This may be legitimate put I would put good money on it is not.

Act like an interested buyer, ask the interested buyer questions, mileage, service history etc.

Thank the man and then walk away. Tell him you are going to put in a bid and hope you will win but walk away.
If you really smell a rat, walk straight to the nearest cop shop and tell them.

Let us know, the forum can help you if you ask

I really don't have the time to go up to LA to look at it, but I emailed and asked if I could to see what he'd say. No response. I would bet that phone number that he gave is bogus. Someone needs to win the bid, get his address and do some checking. If it's a fraud, get the cops involved.
