If it is a stock unit, what is the general opinion of them ? Most of my driving will be street driving with some occasional off roading, nothing radical, probably some mild trail action. Can these be converted to a four turn ? The steering had a lot of slop, the trac bar bushings are shot, the tie rod ends are also shot. The box also has a major leak. Who do you recommend for a rebuild if anyone ? Thanks

If its stock from 74 its a 6-turn box. If its not already, yes it can be converted to a 4-turn box. That's a great box for on-road, off-road, just about anything, although it does start to get a little out of its league when you start running huge tires and doing the extreme stuff. I say run it. Several places can do the rebuild/4-turn conversion, including WCB.

The general consensus is to send it to West Texas Offroad or WCB. They can convert it to 4 turn for you and rebuild it for a reasonable price. Sounds like a good time to get all that stuff replaced. Most of the vendors carry replacement goodies or you can upgrade to a chevy system or heims. Most people like to stick with the tie rod ends for mostly streeters but the heims can be fine too when kept track of. The stock box is fine for what you are talking about. The only real upgrade you should consider is the pump (saginaw) if you start adding things like hydroboost or hydro assist steering, etc.

Thanks guys ! Dusty can you quote me a price a 4 turn rebuild on this box. One more issue with the steering is the column. It makes noise when turning, plus I am considering tilt for ease of getting in and out, any recommendations ?
