... ON MY Saganaw & 4BT . with the Stock gear box. I'M using GM. ATY+4
... But if I were doing what your doing I'd use the Johnsen Power Steering Fluid it's a clear power steering fluid .. & Years ago I talked to a Johnsen's rep.. & he swore that his cheap P/S Fluid was better than GM'S ... I don't remember what he said.
.......................................
....... But on Dodge pumps I've seen the clear fluid work better than the GM.+4 ... SO I'M A FAN OF THE clear fluid that says it's only FOR POWER STEERING FLUID ONLY .

Sykan. Yes we have oriely's. They only had royal purple. Advance and auto zone did not even have synthetic. Yes i can order from amazon summit and jegs but i wanted to do this this weekend and none would have had it to me in time since it took a little bit to get a good answer on what to use. I exhausted all the immediate suppliers i could and royal purple was the only LOCAL supplies brand incould find. So why the attitude?

Well,.... Royal Purple will be f'n fantastic. They are a great company with numerous patents on additives in their products. They are not just a "brand name" they are a real oil research lab/company.
So feel good about your decision. I would have done the same thing in your situation.
We (4x4 community) put our ps systems through a lot more than any other automotive crowd.
This is an area where we should all try to get every advantage.
Rock on brother.
Keep us posted.

... I'm kind of like Bronconut73 .. We've all used everything under the sun. Buefore I went to work for Chrysler .. I'd never heard of changing the Power Steering Fluid. I 1st thought we were just selling a bill of goods to pack another ticket.
... My Truck had over 200K On it so the Guys said we'll change yours for free & you can see the crap that come out of it..
... So I Bite .. I told them we'd go to Chilies that night & drinks were on me if it had any thing in it.
..... I bought lots of beer that night..
........................
..... So When I set up My Bronco Power Steering . I ran a bunch of fluid through the used P/S PUMP I was using ... So I'm not sure But that I'd like to have and oil filter on my P/S..
.................
.... 2nd story My Buddy refuses to use anything G/M on his ride.. So WE WENT TO the ranch in New Mexico ... His Bronco had..''HAD''. AN OLD Thompson on it.& a 6 Turn box
.. It got Hot & Boiled all the fluid out several times one day..
... So When we got home he got a Saginaw pump & New Fluid washed out . in his ride.
... I guess those are just related stories.. But Keep your GOOD & CLEAN.....

When I went through my p/s system this past winter (WTOR box rebuild, Delphi pump, and a cooler) I treated it to 3 pints of Amsoil p/s fluid.
I've used other Amsoil products in the past so I figured I would give it a try.
So far so good.

If you have a good hyd hose supplier handy you can buy all of the pieces to make them yourself using so-called "Hanson fittings" (& similar). This is my preference because now the hose is field repairable.

Same thing with Russell hose and fittings, trail serviceable.

The thing that I don't like about the hi-po hose & fittings is the exposed wire braid. While massively overkill, I used this hose: http://www.hydraulicindustrial.com/eaton/H069.html and these fittings: http://www.discounthydraulichose.com/SAE_100R5_Reusable_Hose_Fittings_s/107.htm on the dune buggy's remote oil filter. It is stiff hose, but it will take a set. It is not the only option, a cursory glance in the Parker hose book showed several candidates, most with a smooth cover.

FWIW Russel didn't used to be all that great of product. I know that Edelbrock bought them a while back and I'm betting that their quality is getting better. I'd just be cautious about buying old stock.

This /\/\/\

If you can.....stick with Aeroquip.
I have used a lot of Earls fittings through the years. They are a subsidiary of Holley.
They have never let me down.
I would also avoid Russell......it just conjours up thoughts of a cheapness no eb should have.
As was stated they are probably ok now but the bad/cheap rep. they have is enough to avoid them.
Lol

Don't use the build it yourself braided Russell lines, mine burst, loss of steering made me hit a rock and it killed my 4x4x2 box. 8 hours and a $420 recovery tow later I was back at camp (broken and 150 miles from home). That crappy line cost me over $1200. But yes you can fix them on the trail. You can also carry a spare 3000psi+ line.

There issue there is the quality of the hose components, not the method of making the hose. With the right components you would have nearly a 2:1 Factor of Safety at the hose's Service Pressure Limit, not it's maximum burst pressure rating.

Yes... Should have mentioned it failed at the hose not the fitting. Crack/hole under the braided line. Fittings are strong, hoses are junk for high pressure application IMHO. Have worked fine for low pressure applications. The issue could have been dirt/dust between the braided and hose but im not sure.

Rated at 2500 max psi, running a Saginaw pump

For clarification you are saying the hose literally just burst without any abrasion and nowhere close to a fitting?
