I just got my bronco on the road after a long restoration and I am starting to have problems with the power steering . I have a 1977 power steering box
with a rebuilt stock pump new lines but the box is from a parts EB i had . I am using BC Broncos hiem joint steering setup with a track arm drop bracket and a drop pitman arm . When I first started driving a couple of weeks ago it had a couple of hard spots when you turned but now it has gotten worse even when driving twenty or so around a turn it almost feels like it doesnt want to turn at all . I have tried to bleed any air out of the system by jacking up the front end and turning it lock to lock but it seemed to make it worse . Could the pump be bad ? Or could it be the box need to be rebuilt ? I was told the 77 box was the closest ratio box ( 3.75 lock to lock ) I dont plan on doing any rock crawling with this one so I am thinking abought going with a earlier box 75 and older ? This box needs to be resealed anyway . And I think that the 76-77 box is more sought after for the rockcrawling O yea I am running
33x12.50x15 Kuhmo Mud tires .Any ideas ?
Thanks Robert

It is hard to say if the box is leaking internally causing the prblems or if the pump is dropping out. Did it do this with the old pump? My guess, new pump is bad. But I cannot say for sure.

Belt tight?

Should be able to turn 33" tires just fine.

Belt is tight . Pump is a new rebuilt pump from a local parts store . I cant say if it did it with the old pump because this bronco was started from scratch with a bare frame and either new or used parts from a few parts broncos . The ( used) box came from a 77 EB that had been sitting in a field for a while so I wonder if that is the problem . I agree that a stock pump should be able to handle 33s because I used to have a 74 with 33s and power steering without any problems . What do you mean that the box could be leaking internally ?

One thing I forgot to mention was I added Lucas stop leak to my powersteering pump to try to slow down the leak . Could that have something to do with the hard turning ? It was pretty thick !!!
