I don't mean to sound harsh, and don't want to sound like a jerk, but to me that is not a mistake. That is the results of carelessness. For example, If I had a customer base, and took one of my customer's vehicles out for a hardcore trail ride without his knowledge and dented it up is that a mistake?

I can understand your view, the only thing is good mechanics are hard to come by. Don't get me wrong here as I have never bought anything from Chuck as of yet since my build is just getting under way but to me being a fellow business owner, if I fired an employee every time they made a mistake or were careless, I would be the only employee of my company. Not every action requires termination as a result. Chuck has stated he changed his company policy and now only 2 people can do any test drives. I am certain this event has and will cost him some customers as I agreed before, it is not a good thing that happened but he did what he thought was right and claims his customer was happy with the repairs, but that doesn't necessarily mean a happy customer as he was wronged and has every right to feel that way. I had one of my brand new trucks repaired after a car crossed a median and smashed the front left corner of the truck. I took it to a facility annd they told me they were replacing everything in front of the motor, condenser, radiator, intercooler etc. WhenI got the truck back I saw that the condenser and intercooler were not replaced and my insurance company was charged for them. They were bent from the wreck and the repair facility sent me pictures of the damage and when I popped the hood the same bent units where right there in front of me, needless to say I was pissed, they remedied the situation and fixed it like expected and even gave me a couple free services fro my trucks. They did the right thing and owned the oversight. I was still not happy to have to endure more down time but the issue was resolved and it is done and behind me now. Thats all I am saying should happen here. Shit happens then we move on, lets not get into a witch hunt.

For the record, I never said Chuck didn't fix the issue with the customer properly. I feel that he did that. Like I said, good for him for changing his policy on driving. I agree that not every screw-up deserves termination. Of course, I don't know the entire situation and maybe I was a bit too judgmental, but I just find it hard to trust someone that lets something that extreme happen over careless circumstances, as they appear to be from what chuck described.

I apologize for starting a debate. I'll let this post be my last in this thread.

All you all typed correctly except clarance, I am not sure what I did to offend him. But anyway we were having trouble with Bob's EFI and he brought it in and told us to "drive the hell out of it" so Wes was driving it home every day. Wes' wife worked for bcb also so he did not need a ride. The day after we decided that the problem was fixed, so Wes did not have permission and did not drive it home the night before but Wes and his wife got in a fight and he jumped into Bob's EB and left. I was not there but got a call when it was wrecked. Wes told me he hit a wet spot and spun out. The story seemed a little odd as the wreak happened on a straight flat road 1/4 mile from the last stop. But I was not there. Later I found out that he and wife were texting when he wreaked. I ended up firing both of them. That is the short story, it went on for mos. Anyway back to Bob I apologized to Bob many times and repaired the damage plus. That is all I can do after the fact.

I have a 75 that is keeps getting all scratched up in the door jam upon entry. My kidos especially have a problem when getting in and tend to make a mess of things. I have seen the ICON with the power step. Anyone know how they do it or have any suggestions for me. My rig is at a truck specialty shop and they asked me to query the forum as to any ideas or done this before. Thanks a bunch.

Easiest fix would be some sill guards. Most of the Bronco vendors sell them. If they are scratching up the striker posts then that is something different and the steps probably won't help much there.

Not sure what specialty shop you are using but if they have no ideas and want you to search the forums you may want to find a new one.

Here are the sill plates: http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/product/Door_Sill_Plate_Bronco_Script

Que? Did he misspell something? Pretty sure he is free to speak his mind around here.

I was only saying that I agreed with what everyone was typing except Clarrance and I don't know what he is talking about. In other words I have no problem with people saying they think I did something wrong or they don't like my parts but I don't know what he is talking about so it's hard to agree or disagree.

Good you ponied up for the customer and let go the employee. To all who question letting go someone like this, think again. He took it once without auth. It would happen again. Sometimes you need a no tolerance policy. If he had whacked someone on the road BC would be filing bankruptcy papers.

We had a guy carelessly driving a reach truck and he lifted it into the sprinkler, causing a flood and damage to product. He was not fired and his auth. to drive was not revoked. Two weeks later he drove a forklift thru a falling garage door. Still not fired. Later discharged a $50,000 Inergen fire suppression system. Signs were on the wall..

The only people who aren't making mistakes are the people sitting on their butts doing nothing. One could argue that the one doing nothing's whole life is a mistake. It's hard to find and retain good people these days, not a good idea to pull the trigger on 'em without thinking it through first! Sounds to me like Chuck did all he could do under the circumstances.

It ain't very manly to bash a guy on a website without talking to him face to face first. Just sayin'.

Thanks, mostly the AC is trouble free but sometimes the pulleys don't align. Other than that i've had a few people complain about it not getting cold enough and a few that say it fogges up the window. I have never figure out why one works great and another not so great. We did find out that the heater valve was staying on a llittle. If it doesn't work right I don't blame him for being upset.

When I have a problem with someone who repaired anything of mine I go straight back to the guy and give him a chance to fix it right. To post it on a public forum without giving the guy an opportunity to get it right or actually badmouthing the guy after he fixed it is nothing short of being a first class, top of the heap asshole. And to include a statement similar to "and there are many others around here who have also experienced problems" with zero to back it up is shameful.

I've had my Bronco at BCB for several upgrades and repairs and parts. Their service and expertise is excellent and I've never had a problem. As you can tell from what Chuck said above he took care of everything including firing the guilty party et ux.

Um, how many factory cars have recalls? It's hard enough to produce something for a global market that performs as it should let alone a small niche market. Maybe some of the parts don't perform flawlessly but I can assure you Chuck and his team are trying to give US Bronco owners the parts we need and want, like air conditioning. I can't tell you the amount of times I've called ALL the vendors on here looking for advice, even before I bought from them. I have had small issues with every vendor on here and they've all made it right. I appreciate the R&D that goes into every part that is brought to the Bronco community to make our rigs better and when there's room for improvement, the vendors step up and make the adjustments needed.

Next time your 3 year old car fails just when it's out of warranty, see what the dealer has to say.

I recently had my vintage Porsche worked on and the antennae fell out in the wheel well causing damage to the fender. It needed to be replaced and repainted. The shop took care of it at no charge. They could have argued with me that the antennae was loose or damaged and said it wasn't their fault, but instead they manned up and took care of it. It sounds like Chuck did the same thing. Was I happy about it, no. But I'm going back there anytime my Porsche needs works.

Wait, wasn't this a thread about power side steps?!?

Making mistakes is a part of life

How you deal with them is the true measure of integrity

Back in my youth, my ol man factory ordered a 78 Bronco with damn near every option they had, but more importantly, he ordered it just the way he wanted it. Ol boy was proud as hell of that thing.

Fast forward a couple months and it was having a problem with the a/c so he brought it back to the dealer. They had to keep it over the week-end to fix it. He got it back the next week and everything seemed to be in order.

During the work week one of his colleagues told him he really enjoyed watching my dad work the hell out of the Bronco at the local off road park. Taking that brand new custom ordered truck across the river and up the sand hill challenges with reckless abandon really impressed this fellow.

Only problem was that my dad didn't do that, the dealer mechanics did.

Dad looked his rig over closely to find water and silt under the carpets and mud everywhere on the underside of the truck.

He took it to the owner of the dealership and told him what had apparently happened.

Two mechanics lost their jobs that day and the dealer ordered a replacement for my dad. Even let him change a couple things at no-charge.

Much like Chuck's situation, the employee chose to take a customer's vehicle without permission and operate it recklessly for their own purposes. Nothing to do with the business or task at hand. Chuck did the right thing firing the guy. I would have fired the guy even if the rig hadn't got wrecked. You just don't take a customer's rig and use it as your own.

Too bad this all had to come out in this thread, or even came out at all on this forum.

I don't know why, but it seems like people love to call Chuck out all the time and he has to defend himself on stuff that ain't really nobody else's business.

This is all pretty interesting reading as ive been a mechanic for 14 years now and ive seen a lot of techs do stupid things and mess up folks cars. Truth is no employer has full control of there employees in a shop or otherwise and you cant predict what might happen to them to set them off on a course of stupid. Chucks issues sound pretty typical and they got taken care of. Im pretty easy going and as long as the shop manager was level with me about it and my truck was built back better than before, I would be satisfied and still do business. But I would only talk with Chuck. lol

Chuck is a good guy in my book! Stuff happens and seems like he took the necessary steps to correct what happened and was honest and upfront about it. Chuck is the one that said what happened and he didn't have to do that at all. I would still buy stuff from BC. I think that they are one of the only forward thinking companies of the Bronco vendors. They are looking to improve the trucks and not just selling replacement parts. In either case it is a feather in our cap to have someone like BC doing what they do. Keep it up! ;D

I rarely, if ever, join in on threads like this but for some reason this one has been bugging me. I love CB.com because 99% of it is about Bronco guys helping Bronco guys...but this is getting really personal about someone who I call a friend so like I would do for any of my friends, I feel like I need to speak up. There are a rare few that I trust with my EB. It's been in my family since new, and will stay in my family after I'm gone. But I recently left it with Chuck and Jason for an EFI swap. And the work, communication and post install support was (and is) spectacular. Nick (NicksTrix) and a local guy (Tim Mason, HCC) might be the only other guys besides BC that I would turn the keys over to. I don't understand why people are jumping Chuck's ass because some employee went rogue. He man'd up, told the story and even told the consequences. What the heck else is he supposed to do? To me, this is only an issue because of some personality conflicts -- which is fine..hell, there's a long line of guys who have a personality conflict with me. But to attack a man's business, family and character in a public forum is chicken shit, in my opinion. Take your personal conflicts to the person and let's not turn this great site into "pirate for EB's". We are better than this! There -- I'm sure I'll regret breaking my own rule for jumping in, but I'd do the same for any of you who I call my friend.
