Problem with door and door post alignment

I'm working on repairing tons of stuff due to a roll over and rust. I welded in new kick and door post on the driver's side. All seems lined up with the front but have a 1/2 inch gap towards the back. Problem is, I really need the rear striker and all the metal to move forward. If I slide the door back, the gap would be too great at the front and windshield frame. This would be the same if I shimmed the door hinges to move the door back or if I tried to move the door post back.

Any ideas?

I'm to the point of just continuing as is with shimming the latch post and doubling up on the w-stripping. Maybe taking it to a shop and see if they have body jacks or something that would pull the rear towards the front....%)

Kinda stuck for now.....:p

Is the hardtop on? Are you taking into account that the windshield will pull back and down a bit with the hard top on or a soft top pulling on it.

Pretty sure I understand what you are describing, but pictures would help.

Had the same problem last weekend putting on my door post... I had super people come help me out on mine.... What we had to do is just trim on the new kick panel and then had to trim on the window frame. The part of the window frame that we had to trim was the one that you bolt the dash top of the dash to and where you screw in the weather stripe to... I hope that you are not lost... There will be trimming that will need to be...

Well...let's see...

Hard top is on. Rockers are being re-cycled meaning that they are shot but I'm keeping them for now. I intend on keeping the tops and cutting out the bottom to weld in a 4x2 square tube later.

My problem is towards the rear....everything appears OK at the front. I can shim the striker latch post to close the door and latch it. I just have a gap in the back and up the rear window frame.

I may take some pics and email Josh to post....Brian should be dropping by to have a look.

Still thinking I will need to take it in and put on a jig to pull things back to the correct spot all throughout the body....need just a tweak. Problem is the other side needs to be done, too. I'm hoping that will line up better but I bet not.

Yeah, I used the chart a bunch! At first I thought the post was too far forward but if I slid it back, the gap in the front would be too much so opted for too much in the back. A large gap in the front would be more noise, I figure. Measurements are right on.

Yes, my mounts may not be solid.

OK...II is 39, BC is 39 and IF is 23...those were the main measurements I checked....I assumed the center lines of the bolt holes were the reference points which is normal drafting procedures. The flange is actually a bit to the rear from the picture...it's not aligned with the front of the windshield frame like in the picture but the measurements matched. Door posts are the ones from Tom's and appeared slightly formed a bit off. This would mean the door post is a bit too far back, not forward. Hence my problem.

Thanks, dude! Beer at my house!

As you guys can see...I won't be cutting the new post out so I gotta figure out something...my best idea yet is to take it to a shop and get all other stuff as well as this tweaked when the project is done....or use a come-along somehow...hmmmmm.......
