Thank you Teal68. Now I just need to round up the troops to help with transferring it to the other frame.

It's ready for body lift off, which will happen next Tuesday night. When I can assemble the crew to lean a hand. I set it down on 4x4s to get it as low as possible for lifting it off and over the motor. I can't wait. I'm so ready to get after the frame and drivetrain rebuild.

The body is off! Two buddies and my son stopped over Tuesday night and lent a hand. We used an engine hoist attached at the center two seat belt attachment points. We lifted it high enough to tip the rear of the tub down, allowing the front to clear the engine. And we rolled it to the side until clear of the frame. Then it was an easy task to set it on the donor frame. We installed a few bolts at the body mounds to secure it to the frame. Then we reattached the hard top with a few bolts as well. The body is now ready for the body shop when they are ready to start work on it. They estimate being ready for it in January. So now onto stripping down the chassis.

Sorry for the lack of pictures. We got so involve with the lifting we forgot to take pictures of the action. So all I have is these after shots.

Nice work! I remember lifting the body on my build and it is a little stressful having it suspended high in the air.

I can't get over the great shape your bronco is in rust-wise. How long has it been in Nebraska? And do they salt the roads in your area?

I'm from TX so I only hear of states salting the roads. :D

In fact, I used to find it funny when folks would say I'm putting away my Bronco or other classic for the winter. Here in San Antonio its the opposite. I find myself putting my Bronco away for the summer because it is to darn hot to drive!

Hi JeffG,

The Bronco originated in Colorado, coming to Nebraska some time in the late eighties to early 90's. Luckily this Bronco has seen a very sheltered and well maintained life. The previous owner told me when he purchased it. It had been stored inside for eighteen years. The previous owner never drove it during the winter. I purchased the Bronco in 2011 and I did use the Bronco for my daily drive for almost two years, seeing two winters of salt. And yes, heavy applications of salt on our roads. I was very diligent with keeping it as clean as possible during that time. The last eight years it was garaged during winter. I don't know how it was used in Colorado and if it seen any road time during the winters there. When looking through the original paper work I have, the Bronco spent two years in California around 2005-07. There are smog test papers and receipt for smog equipment repairs.

Curious what the estimate is on the paint and body in this market. Great build thread!

Hi TX,

I don't have an estimate as of this time. The restoration shop said they will media blast it and look it over. Then they will have a better idea of what is needed. His early guess is 20-30K, based on experience doing three other Broncos.

Today I removed the main fuel tank. This would not have been possible with the body on the frame. One of the previous owners fabricated a receiver hitch which was welded to the frame. I sure wouldn't feel comfortable trying to grind them off with the body on and the tank in place.

I also went to the U-pull it today and picked up a few explorer parts. A steel fan, a better looking set of fuel rails. The OBD2 port and inertia switch, which I forgot to remove from the donor vehicle. Garry “EFI GUY” contacted me this week and said he was ready for my harness. So off to the shipper it goes on Monday.

You are at a milestone down to a rolling chassis. My problem when I was at this point was space to put everything!!

Hi JeffG,

Luckily I'm fortunate to have large garage. In total it is 1300 square feet or 5 and a half stalls, with 13' ceilings. Which allowed me to build two over head storage shelves. One over the door of the wife's half of the garage. And one in my enclosed shop area. Even with this much space. It is still a challenge to keep it clear so we can still park the daily drivers inside.

A little outside work today, grinding away the welds. Holding the home built receiver hitch. Wasn't to bad, they were easy to access with my 4” Mikita grinder.

I took the afternoon off from work, to take advantage of the warm 72 degree day. So I rolled the chassis into the street and power washed it, after scraping off the the heavy built up grime. Looks so much better. I also made up a hose attachment to fit the power washer. For passing through the frame. An amazing amount of stuff was flushed out. At some point in time. Mice built a nest inside the driver side frame rail, near the rear mount for the radius arm. At first I thought the hose was just hanging up on a hole or lip inside the frame. Until the nest material started flow out the rear of the frame. Enough material came out to build two to three bird nests. The little critters built this some time during my ownership. Because most of the bedding material consisted of carpet fibers. Just like the piece of carpet I parked the Bronco over while in the garage.%)

Tomorrow night we will dismantle the suspension.

What have I done!%) Nine weeks later and I've gone from this (see pics) to this. I sure wish it could go back together that fast. We all know that never happens.

Last night the final disassembly of the frame happen and we got started on the Dana 44 tear down. The plan now is to strip down the two axles. Have new spring perches and the Duff Torque Tammer bracket, welded onto the 9". Remove and weld on new front leaf spring hangers to the frame. Then send the frame and parts from the frame and axles to the powder coater.

Great work. It was nice before and I'm sure will be even better. After all the work you are about to do I hope you plan on keeping it forever.
