Hey Nightstick.... Read through your build. Looks good. Gotta love a bare frame!

I'm new at this whole rebuilding so I had not entertained replacing the shock towers. Is there a reason or need for it?

As for betting $10... That's easy money! There is no way I'll finish before you. Seems like life keeps getting in the way. DOH!

Cheers,
BRD

I wouldn't say there's a need for it, but it's a good mod and it allows you to use a few different shocks you wouldn't be able to otherwise. Probably the easiest mod you can do, especially when the body is off. My efforts are concentrated on the other project at the moment, but my next step on this one is to get the metal to reinforce the steering box, different rear shock mounts, and then I'll paint the frame. Good luck with your build.

Before my thread gets thrown in the archive section I figured I just throw a quick blurb on here...

I haven't done ANYTHING on this rig since getting bronco #2. That project was supposed to be a quick fix, but it's far from it at this point. On the bright side I think I'm almost done buying parts for the other bronco, and in a few weeks I'll be satisfied where it's at and I can dive back into this project.

I about to get rockin on this build again. Just waiting on a few things to fall into place, and my other rig to be sold. I'm taking the axles and suspension off the my other rig before I sell it, so it'll be getting the same 4.56 gears with detroit/grizzly lockers. I'm also taking the ram assist and brakes off the other to put on this one. I'll be putting in a 4R70W/Atlas 3.8, and the 351W I built eons ago. Should be a fun build since I've done it all once before and know what I want this time around %).

It'll be mostly a street rig, but I'm still gonna wheel it. I'm not putting a high dollar paint job on it, prolly go with a partial wrap/partial paint thing, not sure yet. I'm looking at mid to late January before I can really get going on it, but that will come soon enough. Oh, and it won't be a LUBR as I suggested in the post last year.

I've been working on the rig for a few weeks now. I got the duff arms on and axles under it last weekend, and I put the shock hoop and steering box plate on yesterday. I've got most of the parts to finish up the chassis and drivetrain, but the next step is to assemble the motor/tranny, and get the crossmember situation figured out. I'm probably gonna go with the ZF x-member from BCB and do the mod bracket, but I'm a little concerned about the weight of the atlas hanging off the tail housing. I might make a separate x-member for it, not sure yet.

After that, I'm gonna pull that back out, drop the body on so I can blast and undercoat it, then take it back off and do final assembly of the chassis/drivetrain.

Your flat welds look great. If you need help on the harder areas I can help you out. ;)

It was an easy weld, but the gun was blocked by the rear brake line bracket so I had 3" of wire coming out before it arched and couldn't move the gun around to get a good pattern. I'm always open to lessons though :)

Vanilla Gorilla build thread - a little progress

Checkin in... Izzy, Banjerpicker, and another buddy came over Saturday and we knocked out a lotta stuff. Since my last post I cut off the factory spring towers and installed the duff mounts, assembled the engine and tranny and got that set in. Saturday we installed the atlas, BCB tank, and some odds and ends before finally dropping the body back on. So now I have a shiny new chassis/drivetrain covered up by a dirty/somewhat rusty body, lol.

One thing to note about using the bcb ZF crossmember/4r70w combo... I made the 4r bracket per the specs in someone's thread I found here. Well, the crossmember itself is somewhat crooked on the frame, so It wouldn't line up when I installed it. I ended up cutting the horizontal piece off, setting it in place and rewelding it so it would work. This problem could be unique to my bronco, and probably varies rig to rig.

I'm gonna take the pressure washer to it Wednesday and get rockin on the bodywork soon. Once that's done I'll finish up the chassis stuff and rewire. We didn't take many pics along the way, probably because our phones were melting in the heat, but here's what I got. The cage is just set in there to save space.

Slowly but surely, I'm still plugging away. After about two months of panel replacement and lots of sanding I finally painted yesterday. The color is Cessna Granada Green. It came out a little lighter than I expected, but I still like it. Once the black accents are installed it'll set it off. I'm going paint the top of the hood scoop satin black as well. Now that the paint is "done" things should move pretty quicky. I have a ton of parts waiting to be installed.

Looks great! I thought you were dead!

Lmao, nope, still kickin... I've had several projects going after I started this one, but got rid of the rest of em, so here I go again. I plan on going to OCBR if everything goes relatively smoothly from here on out. You gonna be there?
