Just had a thought .... (should have stopped there.. I know :) )

Since the heater core is basically a radiator... couldnt you reverse the polarity on the blower motor to pull air from the cab across the heater core and out the fresh air duct to provide additional cooling? (prolly wouldnt help much.. but thought it was an interesting idea.)

I thought about that once, a few years ago. It should work, at trail speeds. On the road, the high pressure air infron of the windshield is blowing down the vent too hard for it to be effective.
I've never had a heating prob bad enough to try it out.

It is a well documented trick to turn your heater & blower on high when you're overheating while driving. It is not comfortable but it does cool the engine.

I can't tell you the number of times I've turned the heater on in one of my vehicles to help cool down the engine. My way of thinking is I'm goin' be hot standing beside the road so why no roll down the windows and turn the heater on. In the summer time!! It works. To heck with the reverse fan business. Put it on vent and full heat and full fan. I'll get over the heat that engine may not!

That is a good idea but it won't work with out lots of work. the first problem is reversing the motor/fan direction won't cause the air to flow backwards because of the fan design. It will still move air in the same direction, just less of it. You would have to redsigen the heater housing to allow the use of non-centirfugal type of fan.

What if you put a puller fan inside the air inlet duct tube or just removed it all together? Or used the fan to replace the inlet tube altogether? That way you would just be cooking the passenger. Might be a plan for the winsor guys.

I've run the heater many times over the Grapevine as my temp gauge climbed skyward. I then realized that electric fans suck and I got a shrouded mechanical fan behind my 4 core.

The heater core idea is good but what if you need a heater?
