I was thinking about r2.8 but for now out of my price range BUT, a Chinese r2.8 with 294 flb torque is only around $1500.00. I think it might be fun then when I can afford the Cummins $12000.00 r2.8 diesel i should kinda be close for swap. Then again maybe not. I also think I might try to get them to sponsor me to show of there engine at shows for daily drivers. Any way roast away or encourage me.

Oooooo. Just found that the Chinese knock off crate motor also comes in a 3.0 more horse and torque. Not much but enough.

Just buy a running Explorer with the 5.0 for $1500. Take what you want from it and part the rest out and then send the carcass to the scrap yard if no one wants it. You’ll probably get really close to breaking even.

Trevor,
Take it from someone that bought a grey-market, Cummins licensed, Chinese made 4BT, new in the Cummins crate. WHAT A POS!! After the the head gasket blew (40 hours), the engine was disassembled to find 2 of the oil pump bolts in the bottom of the pan and the other two were finger tight. the intake and the exhaust springs were identical (both non-spec). All four injectors were NOT the same, resulting in two cracked pistons, The fuel injection pump was not made for low-sulfur diesel (parts were not available in North America) parts had to be ordered directly from Bosch Germany to make the pump run with North American fuel (LSD). I would appear that the engine was assembled with whatever they had laying around.
I can say, I believe the Holset turbo was legit.....

After considerable machining, balancing, and parts replacement (W/ Cummins spec stock parts), and 200 hours I am confident that I have a solid engine.

CHEAP CHINESE SHIT, IS JUST CHEAP CHINESE SHIT.......
