Who's running the RCV's with their Dana 44?

Good experiences, bad?

If I go that route, will need probably some spare hubs and 30 spline lockouts most likely?

This is the route I'm going, but figured I'd post up see if there was much negative before the check actuall went out the door.

Dana 44, 4.88 gears, Detroit locker... 37x13.50 Pit bulls

Thanks fellas.

I broke both front axles on "the Beast" first run out in Disney OK.

Dave, I would not get the lock out's. Save the trouble of a blown up hub and just get the drive slugs, RCV boasts that they are more than tough enough for DD or slugs for that matter.

I really like them, really smoothed out being locked in the front. My steering doesn't bind anymore either. I would get slugs for serious offroad use. I broke a hub at the roundup and had to drill and break the hub out, took awhile. I'll probably have each, and run the slugs at the harder trails.
I have 4.88's lock-rite and 36 Iroks.

With slugs, will you have to run a selectable locker? How will it drive on the street with the front always locked in??

The best thing they have going for them is they will replace them for free if they break..

WARRANTY
If you have a warranty issue, call us. The warranty states, "You break it, we replace it!"

Love mine, been great, I run the Warn hubs, I carry a spare. Havent had any issues so far with them. Love being able to use decent throttle with the wheels turned.

I was thinking about going this route myself and i spoke with wh about it recently. they have an option now to save money so you don't have to buy the whole new set of hubs for $190-200. they have a 300m spline adapter for $100 ish so you can keep the set you have. its a big selling point for me since i have a brand new set of hubs. guys at wh said they thought they were actually stronger than the new hubs since its 300m.

doesn't matter if youre going with slugs, but i thought the info might be helpful.

Good to know. Turns out I got a buddy about to let go of his slugs. :)

I have these new RCV's now and they are indeed smooth. I bought them because of my other Bronco. I have been driving it now for 3 or so years without ever a u-joint failure then axle after axle caused by u-joint caused by my right foot, dam that gets old. So for the 68 we spent dozens of axle replacements worth of money at once in hopes it's all behind. Right?...well almost 600 miles the only issue was a zerk backed out on the driver side causing the hub to lock.At speed. Repetedly. At night. Now the 600 mile old Warn 30 spline hub is oly good for a spare. {0-====-0}

Having accidently driven for a few weeks with the hubs locked in on the street (same as having slugs), there may be a vibration if the front U-joint has a steep operating angle. Use less bushing correction and cut/turn the Cs for caster correction should do.

With the lockrite in the front driving on the street was not an issue. As long as no power is put in or taken out of the diff it behaves like an open.

The D44 was used in factory applications with drive slugs when delivered with the NP203 transfer case.
