no pic but...

the rear hold down has the flared up side toward the back and is suppose to have a small rubber seal btwn it and the tailgate. just pulled one off yesterday and thats how it was installed from the factory.

Flash, the '76 I bought a couple of weeks ago doesn't have carpet, but the rubber mat instead and it is held in place with the trim strip dustybronco mentioned. I will get a pic for you this evening if it will help.

I have this picture but it probably doesn't help you. It sort of implies that carpet went on the tailgate too, hmmm. I wouldn't know though as mine doesn't have carpet.

Flash!

Go half way down on this thread and you will see a black steel strip running along the rear of my bed. This is the piece that holds down both the tailgate weather seal & the carpeting.

HOpe that this helps.

Thanks Seabiscuit Thats exactly what i needed. Thanks to all the other guys also. I sure didnt know the gasket strip in the rear held it down i thought that one of the new pieces that came with the kit held it down. I have been scratching my head wondering how both of those pieces went in the rear.

on the two I have the strip MnkyBiz is talking about is only for the
weatherstrip. mine have a separate carpet holddown similar to the
piece that runs between the front and rear carpet sections. maybe pieces
we're different for various years, mine are '76. if I get a chance I can
maybe take a picture of mine tonight and post tonight or tomorrow.

I found this picture I'd posted in another thread a couple months back
when I was trial fitting my carpeting and interior pieces. you can
sorta see the silvery piece is the carpet holddown and the black piece a
little more to the rear is the weatherstrip holddown. anyways that's how
it all fits together on my '76.

mine are made out of plywood. two 1" thick pieces screwed together. that
gives enough room to router out a 1" recess on the front side to flush mount
some speakers. then most of the backside interior has been routered out
just for some weight savings. I've attached below my picture of the back
side from an earlier thread posting. I don't have any picture of the front
side with the covering off. my covering is just some foam backed headliner
material. very easy to mount using spray contact cement and then 1/4"
staples all along the back side to anchor it.

one issue with inserts as thick as mine is you won't find an off-the-shelf
roll cage to fit in the rear as they normally mount very close to the bed side.
you could probably fit some 1/8" or 1/4" plywood inserts with many
aftermarket cages, that would be fairly solid and allow mounting 6x9 or
smaller speakers.

Mitzel,

What are you running in that panel? Two 8"ers and a 6.5? Do you have that same config in each panel?

each bedside has low pass to two nakamishi 8" subs and then high pass
goes to a JL audio 4.5" two way. I've got high pass wired to the front
too. once I get my cage back in I'll be hooking those up to a pair of 4.5"
two ways mounted to the cage or maybe some type of wiper cover +
speaker enclosure. the subs have a greater mounting depth than a
typical 6x9" or smaller speakers, which is another reason why my inserts
are so thick. this provide extra room so the back side doesn't hit the
bedside sheetmetal. I've mostly re-used stuff I had laying around so it's not exactly
tuned for maximum audio performance but I figured with enough drivers it
should be able to overcome roadnoise even with the top and doors off. :)
plus it's fairly space efficient, stealthy, and once I get my cage back in
it'll be theft proof (unless someone pulls the 8-point full family cage).
