Have 1/4 turn of play in my pinion with a stock car/NASCAR detroit locker, new bearings and stock gears.

Thinking I need to tear it down to inspect it. Thoughts?

no problem. Half turn of the yoke on a Detroit is about right. With the clearance of the ratcheting teeth, multiplied by the gear ratio, with a sprinkling of added play with the backlash and axle shaft spline clearance. That is what you get.

Yeah like others said, normal. Just wait til you take off from a stop light after a turn and the teeth re-engage on accel.;D

I've only heard it pop super loud a few times. The ratchet sound is pretty noticable. It's fun scaring ppl in the Trader Joe's parking lot haha

I ment in the poll.
I know where it is in the driveline and consider it completely normal for a low gear set and a detroit.
