This was rebuilt by a tranny shop in VA , now it's installed it doesn't changes gears . I've heard of stories and old fashion methods , but what have you done to remove the debris w/o pulling tranny out again ? Does the reverse to drive back and forth work ? Plzz help I stunk alot of money converting this to auto now I haven't been able to drive it . I hate towing it on the trailer to all the events ..

It will manually shift gears , but if you have it in drive it sticks/stays in first gear . I put new modulator on it yesterday nothing changed. The pin was in there and I installed it back in again as it was. Fluid is brand new and filled to the line on stick . Vacuum gauge reads 18 , so they should be enough to tricker the shift from what I was told .. Bands have been adjusted too ..
thanks for your time .

Make sure the modulator valve is in the correct direction. It will fit in either way but only works when it's in the right way.

The valve is behind the pin.

The problem is either in the governor or the valve body then. I would get with the rebuild shop and ask them how they want to fix their problem. Easiest route is to swap the valve body out and see if that fixes it.

yes sir ,,, local folks keep telling me it's trash in the governor . some said to put it in reverse , then smack it into drive a few times might blow it out w/ back pressure.. ????? I wish I could do something myself .

tranny shop will tco , but it's over 2 hrs away and don't want to leave bronco at their shop for a few days and have to go back for it ..

thanks again for your help ...

just wanted to add it will down shift fine , just doesn't want to go from first to 2nd - 3rd while in drive ..

I did the few reverse/ forward , but I know I'm too scared to do it as fast as I should . So I disconnected vacuum line again and run it a bit while it was hot , it will shift then ... but not as long as that vacuum line is connected..
uurrgghhh ... :-X

Shouldn't be trash in the governor after a rebuild. Hope it isn't the trans shop saying there is.

There is a washer that can get pushed out of place on the primary side of the governor. I would remove the valve body and check it out for problems. While it's out you can blow air (maybe 20 psi) through the governor passages to try to clear it. If the governor was put together wrong it won't work until you take it out and fix it.

make an appointment at the shop, show up at appointed hour and let them fix it while you wait. if it's a reputable shop with good techs and they did a good rebuild they should be able to fix it while you wait. shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. they'll need to pull the pan and valve body to see what's going on. if they have to pull the tranny make them buy you a rental car.

Don't you have access to the governor by pulling the transfer case and the transfer case adapter? Sure you cant remove the mainshaft but you could deal with the valving. Right?

You could but that's pretty invasive. Problem may not be in the governor. It would really suck to take all that out and not find a problem with the governor. That's why I say do the valve body first.
