I'm getting close to putting in the 302, C4, and the transfere case. I took out the old exhaust underneath, and the radiator is out top side. What is the best, possibly easiest installation of the engine, trans, transfer case- What from the bottom, what from the top? Thanks

Hang all three together. T-case down angle and walk it in slowly. Lower-move truck forward-lower til the t-case lands on a floor jack. Did it this way in a horse barn by myself once. Slow and steady. Worked well.

I have only ever been able to do it in pieces. I could not get the angle right and the weight was so far away from the engine hoist it was risky. Then the maneuvering of the whole thing before the hoist hits the grill. Most hoists are rated at 1000 lbs and I bet the three together 700+.

I put the engine in, then the C4, then the t-case. I pop two studs in the bell housing bolts to make installing the C4 easier, same for the t-case.

If you have an overhead hoist and can roll the truck forward / backward like Tmstrk maybe I would give it a try.

I just pulled all 3 out at the same time...no big deal...(and I had headers on too)....I assume if you can pull it out like this....you should be able to get it back in there the same way....this was the “easiest quickest” way for me to do it..get a few extra ratchet straps to help w angles...go slow...walk it in...(the initial angle will look quite extreme)...you will need to change the angle of the drivetrain literally every two inches you lower it in there...from very upright to as flat as you can get it..

It depends on your help and equipment.
I work alone. I have to do it a piece at a time.
I have put the transfer case ant tranny in together, but used a tranny jack.

Thanks all for your help and the pictures. I see what hoist I can get and make a plan. Thanks again, John

Everyone has their own personal preference. I put the tranny and t-case together and install from underneath then install the engine from above. To me this is by far the easiest method.

I'm an all at once type. All the fussy stuff where it's easy to work on. Drop the package in.

Thanks guys. I can borrow a light weight engine hoist, but I'm going to check into renting something with a taller lift. It would be nice to tork everything together on the floor, just not sure I can do the juggling act with all three together(Any problem attaching to Aluminum heads for installing?). My option sounds like C4 and Dana 20 (bolted in first?) on the bottom, 302 from the top(With shorty headers attached?). Thanks, I really appreciated your knowledge and help!
