I'm ready to remove the 302 from the '98 explorer donor and have a question/questions. I have removed the transfer case (seems like it would make removal easier) I'm going to pull engine and trans together. This is an AWD explorer, 1: Can I remove the trans crossmember to make things easier? or is that part tied into the torsion bar mounts? I have removed the entire front clip (with a sawzall).
2: On the motor mounts, is it just the two nuts on the top of the mount that need to be removed, then pull straight up?
3: anything else come to mind before I start pulling?
Thanks
Greg

1. I don’t know
2. Pretty sure it’s just the two per side
3. Pull the exhaust manifolds off before pulling. They get in the way.

I removed the front fenders and took a saws all to the inner fenders to access the motor mounts and exhaust.

I removed the crossmember and the front clip. Dropping the front axle also made easy access to engine mount bolts. Was able to remove engine with both trans and t/c attached.
